\n\tSacha Jenkins, the journalist and filmmaker, has died, The Hollywood Reporter <\/em>has confirmed. According to reports, Jenkins was 54.<\/p>\n

\n\tBorn in Philadelphia, Jenkins had an extensive journalistic career across several publications. He began his career by founding one of the first magazines about graffiti art called, Graphic Scenes & Xplicit Language<\/em>. He co-founded the hip-hop news<\/a>paper, Beat Down<\/em> with his childhood friend and journalist and TV producer, Elliott Wilson.<\/p>\n

\n\tAfter that, the pair founded the hip-hop and skateboarding magazine, Ego Trip<\/a><\/em>. Jenkins has also written for Spin<\/em>, Rolling Stone<\/em> and previously served as a music editor and writer-at-large for Vibe. <\/em><\/p>\n

\n\tIn the filmmaking world, Jenkins directed such films as Bitchin\u2019: The Sound and Fury of Rick James<\/em>, Fresh Dressed<\/em> and All Up in the Biz<\/em>, about the late Biz Markie, writing the latter two. He\u2019s also worked on the docuseries<\/a>, Wu-Tang Clan: Of Mics and Men<\/em>, which earned him an Emmy nomination for best writing for a nonfiction program.<\/p>\n

\n\tHis additional credits include Everything\u2019s Gonna Be All White, Around The Way<\/em>, Supreme Team<\/em>, Generation Dead: The Walking Dead Fan Documentary, You\u2019re Watching Video Music Box, Rolling Like Thunder, Cypress Hill: Insane in the Brain<\/em><\/em>, City Girls Point Blank Period<\/em> and Harley Flanagan: Wired for Chaos.<\/em><\/p>\n

\n\tFor the documentary Louis Armstrong\u2019s Black & Blues<\/em>, which he directed and produced, Jenkins told the Film Academy<\/a> of Armstrong, \u201cHe\u2019s a very special person \u2014 not a normal individual \u2014 who had a real foresight and real insight and was just the essence of creativity. I play music. I do different things. And I\u2019m inspired by seeing someone who can do it on such a high level. He was inspired by creativity. That was his fuel.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/div>\n
