\n An Alabama college student who was missing for nearly a week has been found dead, police said.<\/p>\n

Montgomery police found the body of Adam Dowdell Jr., a 22-year-old sophomore at Alabama State University, Monday afternoon just blocks away from the university\u2019s campus, the Montgomery Advertiser reports.<\/p>\n

The body, which was taken to the Alabama Department of Forensic Science<\/a>s for an autopsy, was officially identified as Alabaster native, Montgomery Police Capt. Saba Coleman told the news<\/a>paper.<\/p>\n

The circumstances surrounding Dowdell\u2019s death are being investigated and no arrests had been made as of late Monday, the newspaper reports.<\/p>\n

Dowdell\u2019s mother, Toya Cohill, told the Birmingham News that her son last spoke to his siblings on Sept. 8. She then started getting messages Wednesday from Dowdell\u2019s friends that he hadn\u2019t returned to his dorm room after leaving late the previous evening with another student to go to an ATM.<\/p>\n

\u201cI just want my child back,\u201d Cohill said Sunday.<\/p>\n

No additional information is being released regarding Dowdell\u2019s death, Coleman told the newspaper.<\/p>\n

University officials also confirmed Dowdell\u2019s death in a statement while saying grief counselors would be made available to any student who needed help.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe all had hoped for a different outcome,\u201d ASU President Quinton T. Ross Jr. said. \u201cLosing a student is always difficult, and the Hornet Nation is in mourning over his death. Our thoughts and prayers are certainly with Adam\u2019s mother and the rest of his family and friends as they face this tragic loss.\u201d<\/p>\n

ASU police were notified Wednesday that Dowdell, a transfer student majoring in physical education, was possibly missing. Campus police then launched an investigation into his disapp<\/a>earance, university officials said.\n <\/p><\/div>\n<\/p><\/div>\n<\/p><\/div>\n<\/div>\n
