\n ALBANY \u2014 Gov. Andrew Cuomo explained Tuesday how he called actor Paul Rudd in a desperate attempt to help him wrangle a new video urging millennials to comply with New York\u2019s coronavirus mask mandate.<\/p>\n

\u201cMy frustration is younger people. College kids coming back from college, they all want to have a party, they all want to drink, younger people at protests are not wearing a mask they think they\u2019re invincible,\u201d the third-term Democrat explained on Long Island News<\/a> Radio.<\/p>\n

\u201cFor months, the great challenge is how to get the young people.\u201d<\/p>\n

Then he got an idea.<\/p>\n

\u201cI call up Paul Rudd, and I just, I\u2019m a big fan, I\u2019ve met him at an event and I call him up and said, \u2018Can you do a PSA, a video, that really gets to young people?\u201d Cuomo recounted.<\/p>\n

\u201c\u2018He\u2019s respectful, he says, \u201cYeah. Yeah, yeah I can do that.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cI said, \u2018You know, you\u2019re funny, I think humor might do it, because I\u2019ve tried everything. I\u2019ve begged, I\u2019ve pleaded, I\u2019ve threatened. I don\u2019t know what else to say,\u2019\u201d he laughed.<\/p>\n

The wacky video, released Monday night, depicts the comic actor (\u201cAnchorman,\u201d \u201cAnt-Man\u201d) in a yellow hoodie sweatshirt and flat-brimmed hat, clutching a skateboard.<\/p>\n

\u201cA few days ago I was talking on the iPhone with my homie Governor Cuomo, and he\u2019s just going off about how us millennials need to wear masks. Because, get this, app<\/a>arently a lot of COVID is transmitted by us millennials,\u201d Rudd, 51, says in the video, adding the governor thought was aged actually much younger at 26.<\/p>\n

\u201cCuoms asked me, he\u2019s like, \u2018Paul you gotta help, what are you like 26?\u2019 and I didn\u2019t correct him,\u201d adds, dubbing himself a \u201ccertified young person\u201d due to his youthful looks.<\/p>\n

The video has received nine million views overnight, according to Cuomo.<\/p>\n

\u201cThat\u2019s the audience we have to talk to. We have to talk to young people. You know, my daughters, 25, 25, 22, they know all the answers, they just don\u2019t know all the questions you know? That\u2019s the target audience for\u2026masks, social distancing,\u201d he added.<\/p>\n
