\n\tFlight 149: Hostage of War<\/em>\u00a0is the title of a new Sky feature documentary that recounts \u201cone\u00a0of\u00a0the most extraordinary \u2013 and until recently,\u00a0officially denied \u2013 chapters\u00a0of\u00a0the Gulf\u00a0War,\u201d the Comcast-owned company said on Friday in unveiling a trailer for the original film that will debut in the U.K. and Ireland in June.<\/p>\n

\n\t\u201cOn Aug. 2, 1990, just after Saddam [Hussein]\u2019s forces storm Kuwait, a civilian\u00a0flight\u00a0unwittingly touches down in the middle\u00a0of\u00a0the\u00a0warzone,\u201d reads a synopsis for the doc. \u201cThe passengers and crew find themselves trapp<\/a>ed, held as\u00a0hostages\u00a0by Saddam Hussein, becoming pawns in a rapidly escalating international crisis that will reshape the Middle East.\u201d<\/p>\n

\n\tCalling the doc \u201can unflinching exploration\u00a0of\u00a0a geopolitical scandal,\u201d Sky also highlighted the stakes. \u201cFor over three decades, the British government denied any prior knowledge\u00a0of\u00a0the invasion before the plane\u2019s ill-fated landing. Now, new information has come to light to challenge the\u00a0official narrative, and the surviving\u00a0hostages are taking the British government and BA [British Airways] to court to seek justice and the truth.\u201d<\/p>\n

\n\tPremiering on June 11 on Sky Documentaries and Sky streaming service Now, Flight\u00a0149:\u00a0Hostage\u00a0of\u00a0War<\/em> promises to combine \u201cpowerful firsthand testimonies from the key players, including the surviving\u00a0hostages, Kuwaiti resistance fighters, investigative journalist Stephen Davis, and political insiders.\u201d\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n

\n\tWhen plans for the doc were first unveiled, Sky highlighted that more than 385 men, women and children were on board of the flight. \u201cSaddam Hussein broadcasts to the world that the passengers of the plane are now his \u2018guests\u2019 and are not allowed to leave,\u201d it noted back then. \u201cThey are held as human shields in military and chemical plants across Iraq in a rapidly escalating international crisis. Over the next five months, a tense hostage story unfolds with the world watching. It coincides with a pivotal moment in geopolitical history that will change the West\u2019s relationship with the Middle East forever. The hostages become pawns caught up with a ruthless dictator, a plane full of spies, a British government cover-up, and unexpected involvement from Richard Branson.\u201d<\/p>\n

\n\tThe trailer for the feature doc, produced by Drum Studios, gives a first taste of what to expect in Flight 149: Hostage of War<\/em> and includes footage of the likes of then-U.K. Prime Minister Margaret Thatcher next to then-U.S. President George H. W. Bush, a shot of Saddam Hussein, as well as a range of former hostages. <\/p>\n
