\n A California dad said he has received death threats after social media<\/a> posts falsely identified him as a suspect in the weekend ambush shooting of two Los Angeles County sheriff\u2019s deputies, according to a new report.<\/p>\n

Following the Saturday night shooting of the male and female officer inside their patrol car in Compton, social media posts circulated that identified Darnell Hicks as a possible suspect \u2014 calling him \u201carmed and dangerous,\u201d KTLA 5 reported.<\/p>\n

The posts included Hicks\u2019 driver\u2019s license photo, address and license plate number.<\/p>\n

Hicks, also a youth football coach, said he was out dirt-biking all day Saturday, but people \u201cput my face out there real fast.\u201d He initially thought he was being pranked when people he knew started sending him the \u201cbe on the lookout\u201d post.<\/p>\n

But then he realized it was no joke.<\/p>\n

\u201cYou know, I have two daughters,\u201d Hicks told the station. \u201cI don\u2019t even feel safe taking them out no more now.\u201d<\/p>\n

Hicks, of Compton, added that the misidentification has also affected his livelihood.<\/p>\n

\u201cI\u2019ve got my own clothing line. I do a lot of business on my own,\u201d Hicks said. \u201cPeople [are] looking at me differently now.\u201d<\/p>\n

Currently, there is a social media post that is being circulated which identifies a male out of the Los Angeles area as the suspect responsible for the ambush of our 2 deputies yesterday. This is ERRONEOUS information and there are no named or wanted suspects at this time.<\/p>\n

In a Sunday tweet, the Los Angeles County Sheriff\u2019s Department said the posts \u2014 which were gaining traction \u2014 were \u201cerroneous.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cThere was some bad information floating around yesterday about a suspect,\u201d Sheriff Alex Villanueva said in a Monday briefing, according to the local station. \u201cAll that information is false.\u201d<\/p>\n

Hicks\u2019 attorney, Brian Dunn with the Cochran Firm, claimed the damage is already done for his client, who \u201chas no connection whatsoever\u201d to the shooting.<\/p>\n

\u201cAny person would suffer greatly when falsely accused of a crime, especially a crime as heinous as this,\u201d Dunn said.<\/p>\n

Shortly after the shooting, authorities described the suspect only as a \u201cdark-skinned male.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cHe simply has been thrown into this pit, for \u2026 nothing other than the color of his skin,\u201d Dunn said of Hicks.<\/p>\n

\u201cThere has been a complete blackout in terms of the information, where it has come from,\u201d he added. \u201cNobody has taken responsibility for it.\u201d<\/p>\n

Hicks said his prayers are with the deputies \u2014 Claudia Apolinar, 31, and her partner, 24, who were both shot at close range while sitting inside their patrol car in a chilling caught-on-video ambush. Apolinar made a tourniquet for her partner before medics arrived.<\/p>\n

Both deputies are out of surgery and are expected to survive in what Villanueva called \u201ca double miracle.\u201d\n <\/p><\/div>\n<\/p><\/div>\n<\/p><\/div>\n<\/div>\n
