From a non-work device and network, you can contact Lorenzo Franceschi-Bicchierai securely on Signal at +1 917 257 1382, or via Telegram and Keybase @lorenzofb, or email.\t\t<\/p><\/div>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The filing was first reported by legal <a href=\"https:\/\/buradabiliyorum.com\/en\/category\/news\/\" data-internallinksmanager029f6b8e52c=\"2\" title=\"News\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">news<\/a> outlets <a rel=\"nofollow\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow\" href=\"https:\/\/www.law360.com\/articles\/2347345\/nso-wants-new-whatsapp-hack-trial-after-meta-s-168m-win\">Law360<\/a> and <a rel=\"nofollow\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow\" href=\"https:\/\/www.mlex.com\/mlex\/articles\/2347312\/nso-calls-168-million-jury-award-to-meta-unlawful-seeks-new-trial-over-pegasus\">MLex<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">In the court filing, NSO Group\u2019s lawyers said that the \u201coutrageous punitive award exceeds the maximum lawful punitive damages award in this case by many orders of magnitude.\u201d The lawyers argued that the amount ordered in punitive damages \u2014 the $167 million \u2014 violates limits that say the jury should not award damages \u201cgreater than four times compensatory damages,\u201d which were $444,719 in this case.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The lawyers also argued that the jury\u2019s award is \u201cunlawful because it reflects the improper desire to bankrupt NSO out of <a href=\"https:\/\/buradabiliyorum.com\/en\/category\/general\/\" data-internallinksmanager029f6b8e52c=\"3\" title=\"General\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">general<\/a> hostility toward its business activities other than the limited conduct for which punitive damages could be awarded in this case.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">WhatsApp spokesperson Margarita Franklin told TechCrunch in a statement that WhatsApp will keep fighting the case.<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cFor the past six years, NSO has tried to avoid accountability at every turn. This is another expected attempt to claim impunity, in response to a strong message from the jury of U.S. citizens deciding to punish NSO for its 2019 illegal attack against an American company and its users,\u201d said Franklin. \u201cWe\u2019ll respond to the court as we continue to pursue a permanent injunction against NSO to prevent this spyware firm from targeting WhatsApp and our users ever again.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">NSO Group also said in its court filing that the amount awarded in damages \u201cgrossly exceeds NSO\u2019s ability to pay,\u201d and \u201creflects an improper desire to punish NSO.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">During the trial, NSO Group already argued that it is in dire straits financially.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<blockquote><p><strong><span style=\"color: #ff6600;\">If you liked the article, do not forget to share it with your friends.
