\n\tActress and producer Letitia Wright\u00a0(Black Panther<\/em>, Death on the Nile<\/em>, Black Mirror<\/em>, Small Axe<\/em>) recently premiered her directorial debut, the short Highway to the Moon<\/em>, which she also wrote, during the South London Film Festival.<\/p>\n

\n\tOn Wednesday, she shared that she had to overcome \u201cimpostor syndrome\u201d and \u201chumble myself\u201d to be ready for the directing reins. And she had to \u201cteam up with people with the experience willing to teach me,\u201d from the directing lingo to technical aspects, she told the inaugural SXSW London on Wednesday. <\/p>\n

\n\tIn front of an excited crowd, Wright recalled that Black Panther<\/em> director Ryan Coogler told her one day: \u201cYou will be directing soon.\u201d She said her reaction was: \u201cYou are mad!\u201d But his \u201cprophecy\u201d was repeated by a famous actor, whom she didn\u2019t name, within days, and it ended up coming true.<\/p>\n

\n\tIn her SXSW London app<\/a>earance and a wide-ranging discussion, Wright recalled how she discovered cinema and a shy teenager. \u201cI became a cinephile at age 13,\u201d she shared. I watched all these films from Limewire. \u2026 I was kind of a loner.\u201d<\/p>\n

\n\tWhat are her career ambitions? \u201cIt\u2019s about legacy and purpose,\u201d the star shared about how she approaches \u201cquote, unquote fame.\u201d And she added: \u201cI want to leave an impact, and I want you to have a great time.\u201d<\/p>\n

\n\tSpeaking of fame, Wright highlighted that \u201cit takes a very strong person\u201d to handle the tougher parts of fame, given that not all people are always respectful. \u201cThey don\u2019t give us the grace to be human,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n

\n\tDoes Wright have any favorite movies<\/a> in her career so far? \u201cI am grateful for the catalogue I have been able\u201d to create in film, she said. But she mentioned her role in Danai Gurira\u2019s stage play The Convert<\/em> at the Young Vic Theatre in London, where she played the character of Jekesai\/Ester, as one of her favorite work experiences so far.<\/p>\n

\n\tNigerian singer-songwriter Tiwa Savage\u00a0also spoke on the panel, entitled \u201cWomen in the Room,\u201d at the Truman Brewery in the Shoreditch neighborhood of the British capital that was part of the festival\u2019s first-ever European edition.<\/p>\n

\n\tSXSW London runs through June 7. Penske Media<\/a>, the parent company of\u00a0The Hollywood Reporter,<\/em>\u00a0is the majority stakeholder of SXSW.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n
