\n\tUniversal Pictures\u2018 Snoop Dogg biopic movie is blazing a path toward bringing the rap legend\u2019s life to the screen. <\/p>\n

\n\tThe feature project from director Craig Brewer has cast Outer Banks<\/em> actor Jonathan Daviss in the lead role. Brewer (Coming 2 America<\/em>, Hustle & Flow<\/em>) is revising the script<\/a> that was previously penned by Joe Robert Cole and tells the story of Calvin Broadus Jr.\u2019s eventful journey along his path to fame as Snoop Dogg.<\/p>\n

\n\tProducers include Snoop Dogg, Brian Grazer and Death Row Pictures president Sara Ramaker. This will be the first project through Death Row Pictures\u2019 overall deal with NBCUniversal Entertainment & Studios. Universal senior vp of production development Ryan Jones oversees the feature for the studio.<\/p>\n

\n\tDavis is known for his breakthrough role as Pope Heyward on the Netflix adventure series<\/a> Outer Banks<\/em>, which has been picked up for a fifth and final season. The 25-year-old actor also appeared in the Netflix feature Do Revenge<\/em>.<\/p>\n

\n\tSnoop Dogg is a 17-time Grammy-nominated artist who has also become a television and film mainstay. His debut album,\u00a0Doggystyle<\/em>, debuted in 1993 from Death Row Records and counts Dr. Dre as the sole producer, spawning the hit singles \u201cWhat\u2019s My Name?\u201d and \u201cGin and Juice.\u201d<\/p>\n

\n\tMusic biopics remain a top priority for Hollywood following such recent success stories as Paramount\u2019s\u00a0Bob Marley: One Love<\/em>\u00a0and Searchlight\u2019s Timoth\u00e9e Chalamet-led\u00a0A Complete Unknown<\/em>, with the latter Bob Dylan-focused feature landing eight Oscar nominations. Sony\u2019s four-film\u00a0project about the Beatles\u00a0is set for theatrical release in April 2028, while the Bruce Springsteen biopic\u00a0Deliver Me From Nowhere<\/em>\u00a0debuts this fall.<\/p>\n

\n\tDaviss is represented by Monster Talent, Innovative Artists and Skrzyniarz & Mallean.<\/p>\n
