It\u2019s gonna be a hell of a sell for ViacomCBS to convince people to subscribe to their newly rebranded Paramount <\/strong> (formerly CBS All Access). But with its newly announced slate of original titles, Paramount may have an offer we can\u2019t refuse.<\/p>\n

ViacomCBS announced that five new originals will be arriving to Paramount when it rebrands in early 2021, including\u00a0The Offer<\/em><\/strong>, a scripted drama about the making of\u00a0The Godfather\u00a0<\/em><\/strong>from the perspective of film producer\u00a0Al Ruddy.<\/strong> Ruddy serves as executive producer on the limited series<\/a>, which will be written by\u00a0Michael Tolkin (Escape From Dannemora<\/em>), who also serves as executive producer.<\/p>\n

The Offer<\/em> is an intriguing new original title that could give the ridiculously named Paramount (stop with the plus signs, streaming platforms!) the attention it needs.\u00a0The Godfather<\/em> is one of the all-time cinematic classics, and any project digging into\u00a0Francis Ford Coppola\u2019s masterpiece would be worth a watch. Coppola\u2019s Italian mafia films have been in the headlines lately, with the director set to release a re-edit of his divisive\u00a0The Godfather Part III<\/em> this December.<\/p>\n

The 10-episode limited series would likely cover how Ruddy convinced Marlon Brando to take on what would become a career-defining role,\u00a0Hollywood\u2019s skepticism about making a gangster movie into a big success, and\u00a0the film production\u2019s clashes with the Italian-American community, which was against the story\u2019s violent depictions of Italian Americans.\u00a0And with Ruddy \u2014 who won an Oscar for producing\u00a0The Godfather<\/em> and\u00a0has spoken at length about bringing the project to life \u2014 on board,\u00a0The Offer<\/em> certainly becomes a new series that is hard to refuse.<\/p>\n

Joining\u00a0The Offer<\/em>\u00a0on Paramount are four other original titles, including\u00a0Lioness<\/em><\/strong>, a spy drama from\u00a0Yellowstone<\/em>\u00a0creator Taylor Sheridan that \u201cfollows a young Marine recruited to befriend the daughter of a terrorist to bring the organization down from within.\u201d There\u2019s also a reboot of the classic VH1 docuseries\u00a0Behind the Music<\/em>\u00a0titled\u00a0MTV\u2019s Behind the Music \u2014 The Top 40<\/em>\u00a0<\/strong>that \u201cwill unlock MTV\u2019s vault from the past 40 years for a unique and intimate look at the 40 biggest artists of all time, through their voices and their eyes.\u201d The last two are\u00a0The Real Criminal Minds<\/em><\/strong>, a true-crime series based on the long-running CBS drama, and a\u00a0revival of the hit BET drama\u00a0The Game<\/a><\/em><\/strong> which\u00a0was reportedly\u00a0in the works at The CW\u00a0last year.<\/p>\n

More original titles will be announced in the months to come.<\/p>\n
