Amazon Prime Japan announced last week that it will exclusively stream the upcoming <\/span>CITY The Animation<\/span><\/i> TV anime<\/a> series<\/a> on its <\/span>Amazon Prime Video<\/span> service worldwide.\u00a0<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

The show\u2019s newly launched official English Twitter\/X account<\/a> also confirmed that the anime will debut outside Japan on July 6, 2025 in \u201cU.S. time.\u201d Amazon also has a <\/span>listing of the show<\/span><\/a> on its website.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

It was previously announced earlier this month that Amazon Prime Video would stream the series exclusively in Japan. The series will begin streaming and broadcasting in Japan on July 7 at 12:30 AM JST.<\/span><\/p>\n

Taichi Ishidate <\/b>(<\/span>Violet Evergarden<\/span><\/i> and <\/span>Violet Evergarden the Movie, Nichijou<\/span><\/i> assistant director) is directing the anime series, with <\/span>Tamami Tokuyama<\/b> (character designer and animation director on the 2021 \u201cSouzou-hen\u201d commercial) as character designer and chief animation director,<\/span> Kana Miyata<\/b> (<\/span>Nichijou, Beyond the Boundary<\/span><\/i>) as color designer, <\/span>Shiori Yamazaki<\/b> (\u201cSouzou-hen\u201d background art) as background art director,<\/span> Hiroki Ueda<\/b> (<\/span>Miss Kobayashi\u2019s Dragon Maid S<\/span><\/i>) as composting director, <\/span>Tatsunori Kase<\/b> (<\/span>Sound! Euphonium<\/span><\/i> Season 3 assistant 3D director) as 3D director, and<\/span> Yota Tsuruoka<\/b> (<\/span>Nichijou, MONOGATARI Series OFF & MONSTER Season<\/span><\/i>) as sound director. <\/span>Kyoto Animation<\/b> is handling the animation production.\u00a0\u00a0<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

CITY The Animation<\/span><\/i> is based on the surreal comedy slice of life manga by <\/span>Nichijou<\/em>\u2018s <\/span>Keiichi Arawi<\/b>, which ran in Kodansha\u2019s Morning magazine from September 29, 2016 to February 4, 2021. Thirteen tankobon volumes were released as of April 2021. The manga <\/span>returned to serialization in the same magazine<\/span><\/a> after three years on December 12, 2024.\u00a0<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

Kodansha USA releases the <\/span>CITY<\/span><\/i> manga series in English, which was formerly released under its now-consolidated Vertical imprint. It describes the main premise as:<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

From Keiichi Arawi, the adored creator of Nichijou, this surreal-slapstick series revolves around a penniless college student, Midori Nagumo, who lives in an ordinary city filled with not-quite-ordinary people. And as this reckless girl runs about, she sets the city in motion.<\/span><\/i><\/span><\/p>\n

Midori is in a bit of a bind. She is in debt, and her landlady is trying to shake her down for unpaid rent. Her best friend refuses to loan her cash since she\u2019s wised up to her tricks. Maybe some bullying would help. Or a bit of petty theft? Neither is sustainable. Maybe getting a job would settle things\u2026 But working means less time for fun adventures in the big city\u2026<\/span><\/i><\/span><\/p>\n
