The New Jersey producer\u2019s recent tape with Papo2oo4, <i>Papaholic Vol. 1<\/i>, is especially hard-knocking, perfect for booming out of car speakers. Subjxct\u2019s sound is rooted in East Coast hip-hop without falling into naked nostalgia, pulling the sounds and textures of his youth firmly into the now.\n          <\/p>\n<div class=\"\" style=\"padding-bottom: 20px; margin-top: 20px; text-align: left;\">\n<\/div>\n<p>\n            He\u2019s got that in common with frequent collaborator YL, who he\u2019s teamed up with for <i>RRR &amp; 2oo4 Presents\u2026 Only Ones Taxin\u2019<\/i>. Last year, YL told The FADER his label RRR\u2019s sound, \u201chas a fresh air to it\u2026 We\u2019re not trying to scare the hoes.\u201d Subjxct\u2019s production here hits that mark, unfurling various emotional backdrops for YL to muse and meander through. There\u2019s the downtempo churn of \u201cPopstar Worldwide\u201d (\u201cGot my eyes on the Benz but I\u2019m still on the train,\u201d YL shrugs), and the halcyon bounce of \u201c100 On;\u201d YL interpolates a little Tay-K (\u201cLipton\u201d) and Subjxct channels Swizz Beatz early on \u201cWho RRR Be.\u201d\n          <\/p>\n<p>\n            Album centerpiece \u201cBobyahead2dis\u201d is a real smash-and-grab, but YL makes the most of his time over a vivid ripple of bass and refractive chords, his verse careening through a day in the life: waking up with a beautiful girl, cleaning his jewelry, pulling up to Jersey rocking Foamposites.
