Crunchyroll announced today that it has acquired the worldwide theatrical rights (excluding Asia) to the <\/span>Miss Kobayashi\u2019s Dragon Maid: A lonely dragon wants to be loved<\/span><\/i> anime<\/a> film.\u00a0<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

The film will begin screening in Japanese theaters on June 27, 2025. It will be available in Japanese with English subtitles in North America.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Crunchyroll describes the film\u2019s main synopsis as:\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Miss Kobayashi, Tohru, Kanna, and Iruru\u2019s peaceful lives are shattered when Kanna\u2019s father, Kamun Kamui, leader of the Chaos Forces, arrives and forces her to return to the Dragon World to fix a past mistake. With a war brewing between Chaos and Harmony, Kanna must find a way to unite the two worlds, but is torn between her loyalty to her friends and her father\u2019s demands. Miss Kobayashi, however, refuses to let her go and tries to mend Kanna and Kamui\u2019s broken bond. As dragons clash, Iruru uncovers a hidden force manipulating the war. Can they stop the war before it consumes both worlds?<\/span><\/i><\/span><\/p>\n

A lonely dragon wants to be loved <\/span><\/i>was announced last September with <\/span>Tatsuya Ishihara<\/b> (<\/span>Miss Kobayashi\u2019s Dragon Maid S, Amagi Brilliant Park<\/span><\/i>) as the director. Other staff involved in the anime film include <\/span>Yuka Yamada<\/b> (<\/span>Miss Kobayashi\u2019s Dragon Maid S<\/span><\/i> series<\/a> screenwriter) as script<\/a>writer,<\/span> Miku Kadowaki <\/b>(<\/span>Miss Kobayashi\u2019s Dragon Maid S <\/span><\/i>character designer) as character designer and chief animation director, <\/span>Shingo Kasai<\/b> (Free!-the Final Stroke-<\/span><\/i>) as background art director, <\/span>Naomi Takahashi <\/b>(<\/span>Free!-the Final Stroke-<\/span><\/i> co-color designer) as color designer, and <\/span>Hiroki Umeda<\/b> (<\/span>Miss Kobayashi\u2019s Dragon Maid S<\/span><\/i>) as composting director. <\/span>Kyoto Animation <\/b>is handling the animation production.\u00a0<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

The late <\/span>Yasuhiro Takemoto<\/b> (Season 1 director) is credited as the series director.\u00a0<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

    Kyoto Animation previously produced the 2017 TV series <\/span>Miss Kobayashi\u2019s Dragon Maid<\/span><\/i>, its 2021 sequel <\/span>Miss Kobayashi\u2019s Dragon Maid S<\/span><\/i>, and the short form ONA <\/span>MiniDora (Mini Dragon)<\/span><\/i>.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

    The original manga series by <\/span>Coolkyousinnjya <\/b>was first launched in Futabasha\u2019s Monthly Action magazine on May 25, 2013, before moving to MANGA Action magazine in 2024 due to the former ceasing publication. Seventeen tankobon volumes have been released as of June 2025. Seven Seas Entertainment releases the manga in English, as well as its many spinoff titles.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n
