\n\tChapp<\/a>ell Roan is opening up about when she started to \u201cgive a fuck\u201d about the criticism she\u2019s received online.<\/p>\n

\n\tThe Grammy-winning singer, who is known to openly speak her mind, was recently asked by SZA during a conversation for Interview Magazine<\/a><\/em> if she \u201cgave a fuck about the backlash\u201d she\u2019s seen directed at her as a public figure.<\/p>\n

\n\t\u201cI didn\u2019t, until people started hating me for me and not for my art,\u201d Roan responded. \u201cWhen it\u2019s not about my art anymore, it\u2019s like, \u2018They hate me because I\u2019m Kayleigh, not because they hate the songs that I make. That\u2019s when it changed.\u201d<\/p>\n

\n\tThe \u201cPink Pony Club\u201d singer added that fans don\u2019t know Kayleigh, only her public persona, Chappell Roan, \u201cbut when things are taken out of context, people assume so much about you.\u201d The artist continued, \u201cI didn\u2019t realize I\u2019d care so much. When it comes to my art, I\u2019m like, \u2018Bitch, you can think whatever you want. You are allowed to hate it with all your guts.\u2019 But when it comes to me and my personality, it\u2019s like, \u2018Damn. Am I the most insufferable bitch of our generation?’\u201d<\/p>\n

\n\tShe later admitted that \u201cit makes me cry\u201d when she reads criticism aimed at her, adding, \u201cI don\u2019t know if it will ever feel okay to hear someone say something really hateful about me.\u201d<\/p>\n

\n\tIn response, SZA felt \u201crelieved\u201d hearing Roan\u2019s vulnerability \u201cbecause I felt like I was a punk bitch for feeling the way that I feel, because I\u2019m just like, \u2018Oh, maybe I\u2019m just not cut out for this shit.\u2019 Because everybody else who\u2019s cut out for this shit doesn\u2019t give a fuck. But that\u2019s not true.\u201d<\/p>\n

\n\tSince skyrocketing to fame last year, the \u201cGood Luck, Babe!\u201d singer has made headlines for speaking out on a number of topics, including inappropriate fan behavior, LGBTQ rights (Roan is openly gay) and calling out record labels. She also previously clapped back at a photographer on a red carpet for their rude behavior.<\/p>\n

\n\tRoan also noted that she knows \u201cnot everyone likes that\u201d she isn\u2019t afraid to \u201cyell at a bitch on the carpet,\u201d but that she\u2019s currently trying to see if her outspoken nature \u201cis sustainable\u201d for her career.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n
