\n After nearly 28 years, Coyote Ugly \u2014 the famed dive bar that inspired a movie of the same name \u2014\u00a0will shut its doors in the East Village forever, CEO and founder Liliana Lovell announced.<\/p>\n

\u201cAfter sitting closed for six months due to COVID restrictions, we simply can\u2019t afford to pay rent,\u201d she said in a video posted Saturday. Lovell, 52, also posted photos of the empty bar on First Avenue and 10th Street after packing it up on Monday. \u201cThis is hard and life is not easy sometimes,\u201d she added in the video.<\/p>\n

In a statement to The Post, she reiterated that they \u201csimply cannot continue to pay the rent.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cI want to thank all of the former employees, customers, friends, and family that made that little bar so very special,\u201d she said. \u201cI celebrated so many memorable milestones within those walls. The bar \u2014 and you \u2014 will forever be a part of who I am.\u201d<\/p>\n

During a July interview with The Post, San Diego-based Lovell alluded to some issues amid the citywide coronavirus shutdown.<\/p>\n

\u201cI don\u2019t know when the New York bar is going to open,\u201d she said at the time, noting that the bar had been closed for almost five months at that moment \u2014 since March 15. \u201cIt\u2019s been weird with the pandemic, because it\u2019s like starting from zero again. Redoing insurance, working with employees, renegotiating leases. It reminded me of the beginning.\u201d<\/p>\n

But for Coyote Ugly, which now has 29 locations across the globe, there will be a new beginning.<\/p>\n

In the video, Lovell, who opened the original location by saving up bartending tips, noted that there would be another Coyote Ugly bar opening in New York City with \u201cbetter bathrooms\u201d and \u201ca little bit nicer.\u201d<\/p>\n

She confirmed to The Post there would be a new location but declined to share the address.<\/p>\n

The movie, which Lovell has openly admitted she despises, celebrated its 20th anniversary in August.\n <\/p><\/div>\n<\/p><\/div>\n<\/p><\/div>\n<\/div>\n
