\n\tJoJo Siwa isn\u2019t a stranger to public discussions of her sexuality.\u00a0<\/p>\n

\n\t\u201cI don\u2019t mind the conversation,\u201d Siwa tells The Hollywood Reporter. <\/em>\u201cBecause I think people in this world do have this conversation.\u201d\u00a0<\/p>\n

\n\tAfter coming out at 17, the child star turned pop culture marvel has shifted how she labeled her sexual identity a couple of times. \u201cWhen I first came out, I identified my sexuality as pansexual,\u201d she says. \u201cThen over time, I thought [I was] maybe more bisexual, and then over time, I thought maybe more lesbian, and over time, I thought, maybe [I\u2019m] pansexual.\u201d\u00a0<\/p>\n

\n\tDespite her candid expression, Siwa admits that \u201cout of fear of judgment from the world, I tried to not be so open about\u201d her sexuality as it has continued to evolve. She admits, \u201cI think the world is a very scary and judgmental place, and I kind of just shut my mouth about it.\u201d\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n

\n\tSiwa\u2019s concerns were confirmed when she pronounced she was \u201cswitching letters\u201d in the LGBTQIA acronym during her run on Celebrity Big Brother UK. <\/em>\u201cI think being here, I\u2019ve realized, \u2018Oh no, I\u2019m not lesbian, I\u2019m queer,\u2019\u201d Siwa revealed during a private chat with RuPaul\u2019s Drag Race UK<\/em> winner Danny Beard.\u00a0<\/p>\n

\n\tDuring her stint on the show, Siwa was particularly scrutinized for the bond she formed with Love Island<\/em> alum Chris Hughes. Now, she acknowledges their connection has \u201cdeveloped into more,\u201d confirming a romantic relationship, but, at the time, Siwa was in a partnership with a nonbinary person.\u00a0<\/p>\n

\n\tThe former Dance Moms<\/em> star was criticized for her closeness to Hughes, but it remains unclear whether that backlash was due to the fact that she had a partner outside of the Big Brother<\/em> house or merely because she hadn\u2019t primarily dated men in her adult life. Though Siwa truthfully \u201cdidn\u2019t think for two seconds\u201d about the repercussions that would come from their now-romance.<\/p>\n

\n\tFor Siwa, queer is \u201cthe beautiful umbrella term of all the LGBTQIA community,\u201d though she clarifies that she\u2019s \u201cin no way anyone to speak on what term means what,\u201d while adding, \u201cthat\u2019s what older community members have taught me.\u201d<\/p>\n

\n\tShe notably \u201crealized maybe a year ago that I am definitely not lesbian, I\u2019m definitely pansexual, but I just wasn\u2019t open about that yet again.\u201d <\/p>\n

\n\tWhy not? \u201cIt\u2019s not something that needs to be shouted out at the rooftops,\u201d she says, though she\u2019s happ<\/a>y to serve as an \u201cexample that sexuality is a beautiful rainbow, and it\u2019s okay to be fluid\u201d as someone whose sexuality has adapted with time.\u00a0<\/p>\n

\n\t\u201cLabels are something, but you\u2019re not required to have one. \u2026 I think too many people are trying to be right and trying to tell people, \u2018You need to figure this out.\u2019 No, you really don\u2019t,\u2019\u201d she asserts. \u201cI think that\u2019s one of the most beautiful things about sexuality \u2014 it is fluid and love and is love, and love is uncontrollable.\u201d\u00a0<\/p>\n

\n\tSiwa isn\u2019t fazed by the endless headlines about her sexuality, as she\u2019s well-accustomed to the media<\/a> being intrigued by all aspects of her life, \u201cwhether it\u2019s my sexuality, the way I dress, what I wear, [or] who I\u2019m dating.\u201d<\/p>\n

\n\t\u201cNo matter what [it is in my life], people are very intrigued about it, and people love to pick it apart,\u201d she says. Nonetheless, she rejects any criticism thrown her way about her evolving sexual orientation.\u00a0<\/p>\n

\n\t\u201cI think everybody\u2019s sexuality in this world is not for anybody to comment on,\u201d Siwa says. \u201cIt may change, and it may not change; some people\u2019s [sexuality] never changes. But human connection is undeniable, and when somebody comes in your life and you feel that love, you make the choice to be happy with it.\u201d\u00a0<\/p>\n

\n\tStill, Siwa admits that \u201cit feels like I\u2019m very picked on\u201d in the media, but \u201cwhat keeps me going is knowing that there\u2019s other people that feel the same way.\u201d\u00a0<\/p>\n

\n\t\u201c\u200b\u200bI\u2019ve had family members of mine come out and say to me, \u2018You have made me feel okay to explore stuff, to not limit myself, to not put myself in a box,\u2019\u201d she adds. \u201cAnd I think that\u2019s the most important thing we could do with anything in our lives \u2014 not put ourselves in a box.\u201d\u00a0<\/p>\n

\n\tPlus, she hopes that the \u201cpeople [who] have been picking on me\u201d take time \u201cto reflect\u201d on their criticisms of her sexuality \u201cand go, \u2018Wait, I\u2019m a member of the community that spreads love, acceptance and celebration of love.\u2019\u201d\u00a0<\/p>\n

\n\t\u201cI think there\u2019s no shame in learning more about yourself and discovering more about what you\u2019re open to,\u201d she adds. \u201cI think it\u2019s a beautiful month to remember that.\u201d\u00a0<\/p>\n<\/div>\n
