Brandy and Monica have revealed that they were inspired by Jerry Springer and his controversial talk show when making \u201cThe Boy is Mine\u201d.<\/p>\n

Stopping by The Tonight Show with Jimmy Fallon<\/em> to talk about their recently announced reunion tour and also claimed that their biggest hit was a result of watching trashy TV.<\/p>\n

Brandy said: \u201cI was a huge Jerry Springer fan. One of the topics was \u2018The boy is mine,\u2019 and I\u2019m like, \u2018Oh my God. Song idea. Let\u2019s do this\u2019.\u201d<\/p>\n

Monica also revealed that they were planning on hitting the studio to record new music.<\/p>\n

She said: \u201cWe\u2019ll start working on some music immedia<\/a>tely. Then we can just be promoting it when we\u2019re on the road. But no studio tour bus. That\u2019s for the rapp<\/a>ers.\u201d<\/p>\n

The video for \u201cThe Boy is Mine\u201d also nods to the song\u2019s surprising origins as it opens with Brandy watching an episode of The Jerry Springer Show<\/em>.<\/p>\n

Last year, Monica hit out at Ray J for talking about the duo potentially reuniting for a tour without their permission.<\/p>\n

\u201cI\u2019ve been repeatedly contacted about interviews etc. where my name and tour possibilities are being discussed,\u201d she wrote in a lengthy social-media post. \u201cI\u2019ve not received any contracts or calls about said tour. @rayj I\u2019m kindly asking you to stop speaking on me in public! A private conversation would both be necessary and respectful! Brandy is a LEGEND! She\u2019s one with an extensive back catalog that I deeply respect & a voice sent from heaven.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe conversation being had without she and I is beginning to muddy the waters severely! She and I are both consummate professionals that share a massive recording as well as an entire era! Please allow this to remain positive and beautiful! Neither should open, we should give someone else that opportunity and co-headline a massive shared stage if this is to ever happen. Any further convo should be private!\u201d<\/p>\n

She later added: \u201cI get it, I will forever be the \u2018bad guy\u2019 in this situation and no one will EVER pay attention or read\/ listen to understand !!! I have no issues with anyone but it\u2019s not real unless there\u2019s a deal!!! There\u2019s no 100 mill. No contract.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/div>\n
