\n GOP leaders including former Mayor Rudy Giuliani will make the case Wednesday for electing a Republican to lead the Big App<\/a>le\u2019s coronavirus recovery \u2014 laying out a plan to add more cops, cut taxes and get the homeless off the streets.<\/p>\n

Giuliani told The Post the comeback plan was hatched in response to current Mayor Bill de Blasio\u2019s inaction.<\/p>\n

\u201cThis city should not be closed down. He\u2019s bankrupting half the restaurants in the city. He\u2019s killing his own city,\u201d Giuliani said in an exclusive interview.<\/p>\n

Last week, Gov. Cuomo announced\u00a0that the Big Apple\u2019s eateries could reopen at 25 percent capacity on Sept. 30, over the mayor\u2019s objections.<\/p>\n

\u201cI\u2019ve never seen a mayor like this who actually tells rich people who are leaving, \u2018We don\u2019t need you.\u2019 Who does he think is going to pay the bills?\u201d Giuliani added.<\/p>\n

In August, de Blasio said he isn\u2019t fretting about an exodus of wealthy New Yorkers from the city despite the disproportionate amount of tax revenue they provide to public coffers.<\/p>\n

Republicans have often been elected to govern the majority Democratic city following a crisis like this year\u2019s COVID-19 pandemic, Giuliani noted, citing his own election in 1993 amidst high unemployment and rampant crime and successor Michael Bloomberg\u2019s victory after the Sept. 11, 2001 terrorist attacks.<\/p>\n

If he were still mayor, Giuliani said he\u2019d put 9,000 more cops on city streets to crack down on a surge in shootings, lower property taxes to keep New Yorkers from leaving, and enlist the police to coax homeless people into shelters, drug treatment programs or psychiatric facilities.<\/p>\n

Giuliani declined to endorse a 2021 Republican mayoral candidate, though when asked said his son Andrew, who is considering a potential bid, \u201cwould be a great candidate but that doesn\u2019t mean he\u2019s running.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cThere are other people, too,\u201d Giuliani said about a Republican field. \u201cThis is too important not to have a very considered judgment on who has the best chance of winning,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n

Manhattan Republican Party Chairwoman Andrea Catsimatidis, who similarly endorsed her billionaire dad John\u2019s potential mayoral candidacy, said there are other strong candidates including Guardian Angels Founder Curtis Sliwa.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe need a serious change in leadership. I think we\u2019re going to have some compelling options coming out of our party,\u201d she told The Post.<\/p>\n

Giuliani, Catsimatidis and other party leaders will hold a press conference about the plan Wednesday morning at the Women\u2019s Republican Club in Midtown Manhattan.<\/p>\n

Party leaders will detail the plan at the first-ever NYC GOP Convention on 77 WABC Radio at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday.\n <\/p><\/div>\n<\/p><\/div>\n<\/p><\/div>\n<\/div>\n
