This summer, the blood in the water isn\u2019t from chum, rather it\u2019s from a whale of a new competitor: Netflix.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/  a-font-body-m     \">\n\tNetflix dominates pretty much all things TV, so why should shark content be any different? On June 30, Netflix premiered its documentary <em>Shark Whisperer<\/em>, which follows Ocean Ramsey in her unique (and controversial \u2014 and viral) <a href=\"https:\/\/buradabiliyorum.com\/en\/category\/download-scripts-themes-apps\/\" data-internallinksmanager029f6b8e52c=\"9\" title=\"Download Scripts &amp; Themes &amp; Apps\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">app<\/a>roach to marine conservation: swimming freely with gigantic sharks for hours on end. <em>Shark Whisperer<\/em>, the latest underwater documentary film from James Reed, the Oscar-winning director of <em>My Octopus Teacher<\/em>, has treaded water among Netflix\u2019s top 10 films each day since.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/  a-font-body-m     \">\n\t<em>Shark Whisperer<\/em> is not Netflix\u2019s only shark programming of the summer \u2014 though it will be all of TV\u2019s <em>standout<\/em> shark program of the summer \u2014 it\u2019s not even Netflix\u2019s only shark programming of the week.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/  a-font-body-m     \">\n\tOn July 4, Netflix debuted new competition <a href=\"https:\/\/buradabiliyorum.com\/en\/category\/watch-movies-tv-seriess\/\" data-internallinksmanager029f6b8e52c=\"8\" title=\"Watch Movies &amp; TV Series\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">series<\/a> <em>All the Sharks<\/em>. It\u2019s not the sharks themselves competing \u2014 this isn\u2019t Shark Week \u2014 <em>All the Sharks<\/em> features four teams of shark experts attempting to photograph the most shark types within an allotted number of days. The winners get $50,000 for their chosen marine charity.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/  a-font-body-m     \">\n\tBy the time SharkFest premieres, America might be all sharked out. Two weeks ago marked the 50-year anniversary of <em>Jaws<\/em> (June 20, 1975) \u2014 for weeks now we\u2019ve had a boatload of content about the most famous piece of shark programming ever. How much more can one take? Nat Geo is hoping that answer is \u201c25 hours more.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/  a-font-body-m     \">\n\tSharkFest kicks off with <em>Sharks Up Close With Bertie Gregory <\/em>on July 5 and concludes with <em>Shark Quest: Hunt for the Apex Predator<\/em> on July 13.<strong> <\/strong>But the featured program of SharkFest 2025 is\u2026 more <em>Jaws<\/em>.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/  a-font-body-m     \">\n\tTo be fair, <em>Jaws @ 50: The Definitive Inside Story<\/em> is, well, the definitive inside story. It is authorized by Steven Spielberg\u2019s Amblin Entertainment and features \u201crare archival footage and interviews with acclaimed Hollywood directors, top shark scientists and conservationists,\u201d per Nat Geo. It also features Spielberg himself, the man who ruined great white sharks for everybody on the planet not named Ocean Ramsey.<\/p>\n<div class=\"post-content-image \/\/  \">\n<figure class=\"o-figure   size-large alignnone lrv-u-max-width-100p\" style=\"width:1296px\">\n<div class=\"c-lazy-image  \">\n<div class=\"lrv-a-crop-16x9\" style=\"padding-bottom:calc((730\/1296)*100%);\">\n<p>\t\t\t\t\t\t<img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"c-lazy-image__img lrv-u-background-color-grey-lightest lrv-u-width-100p lrv-u-display-block lrv-u-height-auto\" src=\"https:\/\/www.hollywoodreporter.com\/wp-content\/themes\/vip\/pmc-hollywoodreporter-2021\/assets\/public\/lazyload-fallback.gif\" data-lazy-src=\"https:\/\/www.hollywoodreporter.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/07\/MSDJAWS_EC039-H-2025.jpg?w=1296\" alt=\"\" data-lazy-srcset=\"\" data-lazy-sizes=\"\" height=\"730\" width=\"1296\" decoding=\"async\"\/><\/p><\/div>\n<\/p><\/div><figcaption class=\"c-figcaption  lrv-u-padding-tb-025\">\n<p>\t\t\t\t\t<span class=\"a-font-secondary-s lrv-u-margin-r-025\"><em>Jaws<\/em>, from left: Richard Dreyfuss, Robert Shaw, 1975.<\/span><\/p>\n<p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<cite class=\"a-font-accent-uppercase-xs lrv-u-color-grey-dark\">Courtesy Everett Collection<\/cite><\/p>\n<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<\/div>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/  a-font-body-m     \">\n\tJuly 10\u2019s <em>Jaws @ 50<\/em> \u201cuncovers the behind-the-scenes chaos and how the film launched the summer blockbuster, inspired a new wave of filmmakers, and paved the way for shark conservation that continues today,\u201d Nat Geo continued. (Ramsey might take issue with any idea that <em>Jaws<\/em> aided shark conservation.)<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/  a-font-body-m     \">\n\tSo, it\u2019s that and about 23 hours of shows about real sharks.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/  a-font-body-m     \">\n\tAs for Ramsey, well, she\u2019s seen enough <em>Jaws<\/em> \u2014 and <em>Jaws<\/em>-inspired programming \u2014 to last a Greenland shark\u2019s lifetime. (Google it.)<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/  a-font-body-m     \">\n\t\u201cIt doesn\u2019t really help that a lot of mainstream, traditional <a href=\"https:\/\/buradabiliyorum.com\/en\/category\/social-mediaa\/\" data-internallinksmanager029f6b8e52c=\"1\" title=\"Social Media\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">media<\/a> has dramatized and sensationalized sharks because <em>Jaws<\/em> was, you know, a Hollywood-blockbuster kind of film,\u201d Ramsey told <em>THR<\/em> of her motivation to make <em>Shark Whisperer<\/em>. \u201cSo I was just really grateful to work with a fresh platform like Netflix that has a global reach. They\u2019re willing to actually showcase reality and show sharks on a deeper level and talk about not just research, but their behavior in the water.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/  a-font-body-m     \">\n\tThe global reach of Netflix is crucial here. While shark fin soup is primarily consumed in China, people in countries all over the world are harvesting (read: killing sharks and cutting off their fins) their waters to meet that demand.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/  a-font-body-m     \">\n\tSharkFest 2025 actually has more hours programmed than Shark Week 2025 (21 hours). Nat Geo says last year\u2019s SharkFest racked up more than 69 million hours of viewing, inclusive of streaming on Disney+ and Hulu.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/  a-font-body-m     \">\n\t\u201cSharkFest puts sharks where they belong\u00a0\u2014\u00a0at the center of every story. We work hand-in-fin with leading experts to capture breakthrough research, rare behaviors and untold perspectives, pairing their insights with stunning visuals of the ocean\u2019s beauty,\u201d Janet Han Vissering, svp of development and production, told <em>THR<\/em> for this story. \u201cThe result is a\u00a0great white shark-sized programming event guided by <a href=\"https:\/\/buradabiliyorum.com\/en\/category\/sciencee\/\" data-internallinksmanager029f6b8e52c=\"5\" title=\"Science\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">science<\/a>, not sensationalism, dispelling old myths, exploring the truth behind\u00a0the critical role they play in the health of our oceans. We shed a new light on\u00a0these misunderstood predators\u00a0while\u00a0delivering fresh thrills year after year.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/  a-font-body-m     \">\n\t(And I thought I made too many shark puns in this story.)<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/  a-font-body-m     \">\n\tShark Week remains culturally relevant, thanks to strong branding and a 24-year first-mover advantage. Warner Bros. Discovery says the last Shark Week reached 25 million total viewers across Discovery Channel, Discovery+ and Max. (Don\u2019t fact-check me on that.) Think of SharkFest as like Marine Biology (which makes <em>Shark Whisperer<\/em> AP Marine Bio) and Shark Week like having a substitute teacher in gym class.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/  a-font-body-m     \">\n\tShark Week is more prone to the sensationalism that Ramsey rails against (my observation, not hers). And Ramsey says it is \u201cchallenging for the public to differentiate\u201d between good and bad shark programming. Some of the most popular stuff exploits \u201cthe rare adverse interactions\u201d between man and shark. (This observation <em>is<\/em> hers, but like mine in the prior sentence, is objectively correct.) Ramsey says she has been asked to participate on some of these shows and has \u201cwalked away\u201d when her concerns about message \u201cfell on deaf ears.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/  a-font-body-m     \">\n\tRamsey did not single out a network or program by name; she didn\u2019t want to.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/  a-font-body-m     \">\n\t\u201cI want to work with everyone. I\u2019m very collaborative,\u201d she said. \u201cI just want to try and help encourage people towards moving towards addressing conservation issues and being more realistic and sensitive to the tone.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/  a-font-body-m     \">\n\tLike, you know, <em>Shark Whisperer<\/em>.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/  a-font-body-m     \">\n\tLet\u2019s dive deeper (though not as deep as Ramsey, who can hold her breath for six and a half minutes) into the coming weeks\u2019 basic-cable shark lineup.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/  a-font-body-m     \">\n\tShark Week 2025 premieres with <em>Dancing With Sharks<\/em> (8 p.m. ET\/PT), hosted by former <em>Dancing With the Stars<\/em> host Tom Bergeron. <em>Dancing with\u00a0Sharks<\/em>\u00a0has five divers competing to put together an amazing underwater routine \u2014 with sharks, of course.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/  a-font-body-m     \">\n\t\u201cFrom hammerheads to tigers and nurse\u00a0sharks, each\u00a0shark\u00a0has its own signature dance moves,\u201d the <em>Dancing With Sharks<\/em> logline reads. \u201cAt the end of the show, a winner is crowned \u2014 if all the competitors make it that far.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/  a-font-body-m     \">\n\tAs the name lays out, an entire week of (more) shark programming follows, totaling 21 hours in all. Highlights include <em>Great White Sex Battle<\/em> (July 21 at 8 p.m. ET\/PT), which is a bit less exciting (and weird) than it might first read.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/  a-font-body-m     \">\n\t\u201cIn a Shark Week first, male and female\u00a0great\u00a0white sharks compete in a series of challenges to determine which\u00a0sex\u00a0is the superior predator in the waters off the coast of New Zealand,\u201d per the press release.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/  a-font-body-m     \">\n\tOK, so maybe it should have been titled <em>Great White Battle of the Sexes<\/em> and not, well, what it <em>is<\/em> named.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/  a-font-body-m     \">\n\tAnd then there is my personal favorite, <em>Jaws vs Mega Croc<\/em>\u00a0(9 p.m. ET\/PT).<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/  a-font-body-m     \">\n\t\u201cUsing data gathered in new experiments, Tristan Guttridge, Rosie Moore and Dr. Sora Kim construct a CGI fight to the death between two of the biggest and baddest apex predators in the water \u2014 the Great White\u00a0Shark\u00a0and Nile Crocodile,\u201d the logline says. <\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/  a-font-body-m     \">\n\tI say: Hell yes. <\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/  a-font-body-m     \">\n\tBut what do the oddsmakers at BetOnline say? After <em>THR<\/em> provided the bookies with the above title and logline, they chose shark as the heavy favorite (-500) with the <s>underdog<\/s> undercroc a long shot at +350, with the noted caveat that water depth could move those odds significantly. We\u2019d take Nile Crocodile all day at that line, but it\u2019s not prop they\u2019re actually willing to post.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<blockquote><p><strong><span style=\"color: #ff6600;\">If you liked the article, do not forget to share it with your friends.
