CD PROJEKT RED<\/b> announced during a panel at Anime<\/a> Expo 2025 that a new standalone 10-episode anime series<\/a> in the <\/span>Cyberpunk 2077<\/span><\/i> series is in production, with studio <\/span>TRIGGER<\/b> once again in charge of the animation production. Netflix will stream the new series in the future.\u00a0<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

A new main visual poster illustrated by <\/span>Ichigo Kanno<\/b> was also released, along with the series\u2019 official logo.\u00a0\u00a0<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

The new anime project is titled <\/span>Cyberpunk: Edgerunners 2<\/span><\/i> and will be directed by <\/span>Kai Ikarashi <\/b>(<\/span>Cyberpunk Edgerunners <\/span><\/i>episode 6 animation director), who takes over from <\/span>Hiroyuki Imaishi <\/b>(<\/span>Kill La Kill, Promare<\/span><\/i>), who helmed the <\/span>Cyberpunk: Edgerunners<\/span><\/i> anime series.\u00a0<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

The first\u00a0series was released on Netflix on September 13, 2022 for 10 total episodes. The series won \u201cAnime of the Year\u201d at the seventh Crunchyroll Anime Awards in 2023 and \u201cBest Anime Series\u201d at the IGN Awards. It was also a nominee for \u201cBest Adaptation\u201d at the <\/span>2022 Game<\/a> Awards<\/span>.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

The anime series itself is inspired by the 2020 open world sci-fi RPG <\/span>Cyberpunk 2077<\/span><\/i> from CD Projekt Red, which is in turn set in the world created by<\/span> Mike Pondsmith<\/b> for the <\/span>Cyberpunk <\/span><\/i>tabletop RPG.\u00a0<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

A prequel manga titled <\/span>Cyberpunk: Edgerunners MADNESS<\/span><\/i> began serialization on KADOKAWA\u2019s Comic Alive+ website on December 13, 2024. Dark Horse Comics will <\/span>release the series in print in February 2026<\/span>.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

Cyberpunk: Edgerunners tells a standalone, 10-episode story about a street kid trying to survive in a technology<\/a> and body modification-obsessed city of the future. Having everything to lose, he chooses to stay alive by becoming an edgerunner \u2014 a mercenary outlaw also known as a cyberpunk.<\/span><\/i><\/span><\/p>\n
