\n\tWith Girls<\/em> experiencing a resurgence in recent years<\/a>, fans of Zosia Mamet\u2018s character Shoshanna Shapiro have been hopeful that she would get her own spinoff.<\/p>\n

\n\tAnd now Girls<\/em> creator Lena Dunham is addressing that possibility.<\/p>\n

\n\t\u201cI love Shoshanna. I am on record as saying she is my favorite girl,\u201d Dunham said on the Not Skinny But Not Fat<\/em> podcast<\/a>, adding that Shoshanna is the character that is most likely \u201cgoing places\u201d out of the four main girls.<\/p>\n

\n\tIn addition to loving the character of Shoshanna, Dunham said that it was \u201csuch a joy to watch Zosia be her.\u201d<\/p>\n

\n\t\u201cSo if there was, like, the right context for us to do it, I\u2019d be fucking thrilled,\u201d Dunham said. \u201cAnd also to do anything with her.\u201d <\/p>\n

\n\tDunham explained that she and Mamet have jokingly \u201ckicked around\u201d ideas of where Shoshanna would be today. \u201cShe\u2019d be so brilliant at revisiting it, and I just miss it and I miss her,\u201d Dunham said, stating that she would be \u201cin\u201d to do a spinoff about Shoshanna.<\/p>\n

\n\tMamet has also expressed interest in revisiting the character in a spinoff. \u201cI\u2019m trying to get Lena to write a Shosh spinoff,\u201d Mamet said when she app<\/a>eared on the same podcast<\/a> in January. \u201cI\u2019ve been, like, slowly working on her. We\u2019ll see. She seems receptive.\u201d<\/p>\n

\n\tMeanwhile, the idea of doing a Girls<\/em> follow-up has long been of interest to Dunham. In a January 2022 cover story, The Hollywood Reporter<\/em> revealed that Dunham had engaged in informal talks with HBO about a possible Girls <\/em>reboot, in which the characters were older and wiser.<\/p>\n

\n\tThough, she admitted it wasn\u2019t the right time.<\/p>\n

\n\t\u201cWe all recognize it\u2019s not time yet,\u201d she said. \u201cI want it to be at a moment when the characters\u2019 lives have really changed.\u201d<\/p>\n

\n\tAnd HBO boss Casey Bloys added, \u201cAs proud of the show as we are, there aren\u2019t any plans to bring Girls<\/em> back. It\u2019s great to know new viewers will continue to discover the [original] series<\/a>.\u201d<\/p>\n

\n\tThe penultimate episode of Girls <\/em>featured the surprise that Shoshanna was engaged to a man neither Hannah (Dunham) or viewers had heard of.<\/p>\n

\n\t\u201cI remember when that idea came up, it was like, \u2018How could she?\u2019 Shoshanna\u2019s been very light this season, and it hasn\u2019t been an accident,\u201d Dunham told THR<\/em> at the time. \u201cWe love Zosia, and we want her acting all of the time. But it has felt like she was going to be the character who made the breakaway first, and we needed to explain what had happened to her during that time.\u201d<\/p>\n

\n\tDunham makes her return to TV with Netflix\u2019s Too Much<\/em>, which she created and based loosely on her real-life romance with husband Luis Felber, streaming Thursday.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n
