\n\tRichard Dreyfuss was forced to cancel a planned app<\/a>earance at a fan event over the weekend after coming down with viral bronchitis.<\/p>\n

\n\tThe Jaws<\/em> star was scheduled to appear at SharkCon, an event sponsored by National Geographic that took place this weekend at the Florida State Fairgrounds Expo in Tampa. He was expected to take part in photo ops and do autograph signings at the event.<\/p>\n

\n\tHowever, in a video posted on the SharkCon Instagram page, Dreyfuss \u2014 who appears to be in a hospital bed \u2014\u00a0shared that he would not be able to attend thsi year\u2019s event.<\/p>\n

\n\t\u201cHello, fellow cons,\u201d he started the video. \u201cI am very, very sorry to tell you that I\u2019ve been diagnosed with viral \u2014 viral \u2014 what is it?\u201d he asked his wife, Svetlana Erokhin, who was off-camera but seemingly recording the video for Dreyfuss. Viral bronchitis, she replied.<\/p>\n

\n\t\u201cI\u2019ve been told by my doctors I cannot fly, and I would have to fly five hours to get there,\u201d he continued. \u201cI\u2019m terribly sorry because I had planned to be there and had been looking forward to it. But I\u2019m unable to do so. I don\u2019t want to get anyone else sick, and I don\u2019t want to get sicker myself. I feel terrible about not showing up, and I [would] feel worse about exposing you to this apparently very viral illness. But there will be other times, and I will make it my business to show up.\u201d<\/p>\n

\n\tHe ended with a positive message to the fans.<\/p>\n

\n\t\u201cI want to wish you all good luck and happiness,\u201d he said, then adding with a laugh: \u201cAnd I want you all to feel very sorry for me.<\/p>\n

\n\t\u201cAnd very sorry for yourselves,\u201d he continued. \u201cI\u2019m in a lot of pain. And that has to come first \u2014 my health. And I feel very good about having the time and enough health.\u201d<\/p>\n

\n\tHis wife then chimed in: \u201cAnd such great fans. We love you. We miss you all, and we will see you soon.\u201d<\/p>\n

\n\t\u201cShe\u2019s right,\u201d Dreyfuss said.\u00a0(Watch the video below.)<\/p>\n

\n\tIn its post, SharkCon said that fans who had purchased \u201cprepaid autographs and photo ops\u201d would be automatically refunded.<\/p>\n

\n\tAccording the event\u2019s website<\/a>, other SharkCon 2025 attendees were scheduled to include Jaws<\/em>\u00a0actors Jeffrey Voorhees,\u00a0Jonathan and Steven Searle, and Carla Hogendyk; Jaws 2<\/em>\u00a0castmembers John Dukakis and G. Thomas Dunlop; and Jaws 3-D<\/em>\u00a0actors John Putch, Jackie Kuntarich Cook and Liz Smith.<\/p>\n

\n\tJaws<\/em>, directed by Steven Spielberg, is set to get a 50th-anniversary rerelease on Aug. 29 in AMC Theatres.\u00a0<\/p>\n
