{"id":680660,"date":"2025-07-19T19:50:35","date_gmt":"2025-07-19T16:50:35","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/buradabiliyorum.com\/en\/clearing-the-way-robin-kayes-legacy-as-a-champion-for-music-supervision\/"},"modified":"2025-07-19T19:50:35","modified_gmt":"2025-07-19T16:50:35","slug":"clearing-the-way-robin-kayes-legacy-as-a-champion-for-music-supervision","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/buradabiliyorum.com\/en\/clearing-the-way-robin-kayes-legacy-as-a-champion-for-music-supervision\/","title":{"rendered":"Clearing the Way: Robin Kaye\u2019s Legacy as a Champion for Music Supervision"},"content":{"rendered":"<div>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/  a-font-body-m     \">\n\tThe entertainment industry remains deep in mourning over the death of Robin Kaye, the longtime music supervisor for <em>American Idol,<\/em> who was found murdered along with her husband, Thomas Deluca, in their home in an <a href=\"https:\/\/buradabiliyorum.com\/en\/category\/download-scripts-themes-apps\/\" data-internallinksmanager029f6b8e52c=\"9\" title=\"Download Scripts &amp; Themes &amp; Apps\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">app<\/a>arent double homicide. <\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/  a-font-body-m     \">\n\tKaye\u2019s contemporaries are remembering her as a consummate professional who had a keen talent for working with creatives, and for her stewardship as an advocate in championing the music supervision profession as a whole.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/  a-font-body-m     \">\n\t\u201cShe was a fierce advocate of supervisors, she was a smooth, pragmatic and calming presence to all of us,\u201d veteran producer and a founding member of the Guild of Music Supervisors Jonathan McHugh tells <em>The Hollywood Reporter. <\/em>\u201cShe was working with the Guild early, she produced our award show, she believed in the goal of helping improve the craft and make sure the bigger supervisors were helping the smaller ones.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/  a-font-body-m     \">\n\tJill Meyers, who spent over a decade as music supervisor on rival music contest <em>The Voice,<\/em> said she shared a close bond together with Kaye and Ginsburg, adding that \u201cit felt like we worked for each other,\u00a0 three people from competing shows who loved each other and constantly did our best to help and boost the others up.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/  a-font-body-m     \">\n\tMaureen Crowe, the Guild\u2019s founding president, called Kaye \u201csuch a bright light in our community,\u201d lauding her efforts as an early Guild board member and vice president, and for her work on building out the Guild of Music Supervisors Award show.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/  a-font-body-m     \">\n\t\u201cShe was empowered with an incredible skill set to make great things happen, and she put those skills to work in the service of others to empower them and help them succeed,\u201d Crowe said. \u201cHer legacy will continue inspire.\u00a0She and Tom will more sorely missed.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/  a-font-body-m     \">\n\tWhile Kaye\u2019s reach in the business was wide, those successes she\u2019d cultivated for others is most apparent with <em>Idol<\/em>, which had imparted her with more influence compared to the more typical music supervision assignment. Aside from the incredibly high number of clearances she had to get done for the show, while a more typical program selects songs merely to soundtrack a particular moment, on a singing contest, those clearances can decide an artist\u2019s career. <\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/  a-font-body-m     \">\n\t\u201cIf they get the right song, that can be the difference in having a career or not,\u201d McHugh says. \u201cIn a way, Robin\u2019s work was a gateway for nurturing artists\u2019 careers. Sometimes artists got 30 seconds, a minute to get a thumbs up or down, Robin was the kind of person that would always go to the wall and make sure that if that\u2019s the song that someone wanted, she would try to get there if she could.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/  a-font-body-m     \">\n\t<em>Idol <\/em>host Randy Jackson said on Instagram this week that Kaye \u201cconsistently went the extra mile, meticulously ensuring songs were placed and cleared for the show.\u201d<\/p>\n<figure class=\"wp-block-embed aligncenter is-type-rich is-provider-instagram wp-block-embed-instagram\"\/>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/  a-font-body-m     \">\n\tOne of her more famous cases was securing Led Zeppelin\u2019s \u201cWhole Lotta Love\u201d for Adam Lambert in 2009, a notable success given how notoriously protective Zeppelin is about permitting its music for use on film and TV.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/  a-font-body-m     \">\n\t\u201cWe always were talking about Led Zeppelin because everybody knew that we couldn\u2019t do Led Zeppelin,\u201d Kaye recalled in an interview in 2009. \u201cI think Adam brought it up and I said, \u2018no, you can\u2019t do it.\u2019 When we started really seeing how talented Adam was, I had a feeling they would consider him. I couldn\u2019t have asked them just in <a href=\"https:\/\/buradabiliyorum.com\/en\/category\/general\/\" data-internallinksmanager029f6b8e52c=\"3\" title=\"General\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">general<\/a> \u2018let us do it this year.\u2019 They wouldn\u2019t have said yes, but it made sense with Adam.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/  a-font-body-m     \">\n\t\u201cIt\u2019s always worth asking,\u201d Kaye continued. \u201cI never take a \u2018no\u2019 from anybody as a permanent \u2018no.\u2019 This business changes too much and situations change.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/  a-font-body-m     \">\n\tAs Kaye\u2019s longtime friend Jacquie Perryman, a consultant for Paul McCartney\u2019s MPL Music Publishing, remembers: \u201cShe was particularly good at advising artists and creatives. She could really help find music for the younger kids who maybe didn\u2019t know the older songs.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/  a-font-body-m     \">\n\tPerryman says Kaye was like a sister to her, adding that they first worked together in the \u201990s after she hired Kaye at PolyGram to build out the label\u2019s licensing department. Kaye, Perryman says, was \u201ccompletely respected and liked because she was an authentic person who didn\u2019t put on airs.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/  a-font-body-m     \">\n\t\u201cI screamed when I heard the <a href=\"https:\/\/buradabiliyorum.com\/en\/category\/news\/\" data-internallinksmanager029f6b8e52c=\"2\" title=\"News\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">news<\/a>, it\u2019s so devastating,\u201d she says. \u201cRobin and Tom were in the prime of their lives, they were lovely people who were good to everyone around them.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/  a-font-body-m     \">\n\tBoth McHugh and Perryman emphasize that it was Kaye\u2019s unmatched relationships with music publishers that gave her an edge in the business. <\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/  a-font-body-m     \">\n\t\u201cShe could actually clear amazing songs for the show because her reputation and her relationships were parallel to none,\u201d Perryman says. \u201cThe business has a lot of egos, but she was able to work with everybody. She wasn\u2019t a self-promoter at all, she didn\u2019t make it about her. She just believed music supervision was a job that people should recognize and respect.
