That&#8217;s a seismic shift in how reproductive-aged women are managing their reproductive choice, the researchers say. The study tracked nearly 860,000 women aged 15\u201349 and found that cost had been a major barrier to accessing the most effective methods like intrauterine devices (IUDs) and implants, which can cost up to $450 out of pocket.<\/p>\n<p>The work appears in <i>BMJ<\/i>.<\/p>\n<h2><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"A_quiet_revolution_in_reproductive_health\"><\/span>A quiet revolution in reproductive health<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h2>\n<p>The policy was not promoted heavily through advertisements and such\u2014just standard government announcements with a simple promise: You won&#8217;t pay a cent. That was enough to tip the scales for thousands of women who had been priced out of the most effective options.<\/p>\n<p>LARC methods are 10 times more effective than the birth control pill or condoms. By removing the cost barrier, B.C. has found a straightforward way to prevent unintended pregnancy and promote reproductive autonomy.<\/p>\n<h2><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"A_national_model_in_the_making\"><\/span>A national model in the making?<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h2>\n<p>According to lead author Dr. Laura Schummers, assistant professor in UBC&#8217;s faculty of pharmaceutical <a href=\"https:\/\/buradabiliyorum.com\/en\/category\/sciencee\/\" data-internallinksmanager029f6b8e52c=\"5\" title=\"Science\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">science<\/a>s, B.C.&#8217;s success offers a blueprint for other provinces and for national pharmacare.
