Sui Research\u2019s new quantum-safe wallet upgrade method offers a hard fork-free solution for EdDSA-based blockchains, but does not app<\/a>ly to Bitcoin or Ethereum.<\/p>\n

Sui Research has introduced a cryptographic framework that could offer protection against quantum computing threats without requiring hard forks, address changes or key updates.<\/p>\n

Cryptographer Kostas Chalkias wrote in a Monday X post<\/a> that the recent research paper<\/a> he co-authored with Sui Research constitutes \u201ca major breakthrough in quantum transition of \u2018some\u2019 blockchains.\u201d He explained that while the new approach would apply to Sui, Solana, Near, Cosmos and other networks, it would not apply to Ethereum and Bitcoin.<\/p>\n

\u201cAs far as I know, this is the first backward-compatible quantum-safe upgrade path for blockchain wallets to avoid future forks or freezing accounts,\u201d Chalkias said.<\/p>\n
