A$AP Rocky has been praised by Spike Lee for how he acted opposite Denzel Washington.<\/p>\n
In his first significant acting role, Rocky plays the son of Washington’s character in Lee’s newest movie Highest 2 Lowest.<\/p>\n
Speaking on The Tonight Show with Jimmy Fallon<\/em>, Lee said: \u201cYeah, don\u2019t sleep on A$AP. In this film, Denzel and A$AP go toe-to-toe. What\u2019s interesting is, even before I got involved with this film, I always thought that A$AP looked like he could be Denzel\u2019s son. There\u2019s a big resemblance. So when you see it on the screen, it adds an element of father and son.\u201d<\/p>\n He reiterated: \u201cDon\u2019t sleep on A$AP. I\u2019ve done five films with Denzel, and a lot of times when he\u2019s in a scene with somebody, they just get overwhelmed. He\u2019s one of the greatest living actors today, but A$AP wasn\u2019t having that. Toe-to-toe, I mean, they were going at it.\u201d<\/p>\n Rocky previously revealed the type of music Washington likes to listen to while on set.<\/p>\n He said: \u201cDenzel would pull up to the movie set playing Pooh Shiesty and Moneybagg Yo, swear to God. Can\u2019t make this up.\u201d<\/p>\n Rocky added: \u201cHe likes to listen to Memphis rapp<\/a>ers, but modern Memphis rappers. Then he started quoting NLE Choppa. I\u2019m like, \u2018You know NLE Choppa?!\u2019 He like, \u2018I don\u2019t do drive-bys now, walk \u2019em down.\u2019 I\u2019m like, \u2018Yo, Denzel, chill!\u2019 It was crazy, he\u2019s really tapped in, man.\u201d<\/p>\n Highest 2 Lowest\u00a0<\/em>is billed as a \u201creinterpretation\u201d of Akira Kurosawa\u2019s classic 1963 film\u00a0High and Low<\/em>.<\/p>\n The Japanese crime film was based on the Ed McBain novel\u00a0King\u2019s Ransom<\/em>, which tells the story of a businessman\u2019s ruin following a ransom payment to kidnappers.<\/p>\n Spike also said to Deadline: \u201cIn Kurosawa\u2019s film, Toshiro Mifune is a shoemaker. In our film Denzel Washington is a music mogul with his own label and his reputation as the best ears in the business.
