His August and October 2024 mixtapes <i>Pretti<\/i> and <i>FunHouse<\/i> pushed his heartfelt rage raps and chipper, upbeat sound in front of an unprecedentedly wider audience, but the attention was debilitating. \u201cPeople was looking at me all types of different ways, talking about me all types of different ways,\u201d he tells me on a video call. \u201cI wasn\u2019t talking to nobody, I wasn\u2019t answering no calls. I couldn\u2019t make no beats, I couldn\u2019t even record.\u201d\n          <\/p>\n<div class=\"\" style=\"padding-bottom: 20px; margin-top: 20px; text-align: left;\">\n<\/div>\n<p>\n            At least some of the burnout can be chalked up to his breakneck recording pace: the self-produced <i>Pretti<\/i> came together in just a week and a half. Capitalizing on his fast-rising profile, <i>FunHouse<\/i> enlisted several of the scene\u2019s preeminent producers to burrow deeper into the young r<a href=\"https:\/\/buradabiliyorum.com\/en\/category\/download-scripts-themes-apps\/\" data-internallinksmanager029f6b8e52c=\"9\" title=\"Download Scripts &amp; Themes &amp; Apps\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">app<\/a>er\u2019s euphoric, freewheeling sound. Riding high, prettifun teased that a third project was set to drop before the end of 2024. Then he went radio silent.\n          <\/p>\n<p>\n            \u201cIt was a lot of stuff going on in my personal life. Coming from serious musical stock \u2013 he says he\u2019s \u201crelated to a lot of people from Parliament-Funkadelic\u201d \u2013 he became an eager theater kid in middle school. His experiences with productions of <i>Shrek<\/i> and <i>Hamilton<\/i> proved valuable, even if anxiety relegated him to the background.\n          <\/p>\n<div class=\"\" style=\"padding-bottom: 20px; margin-top: 20px; text-align: left;\">\n<\/div>\n<p>\n            \u201cI thought musical theater was some shit like <i>Glee<\/i>,\u201d he laughs. \u201cOnce I got into it, it was still weird, but there was a lot of things I learned from it: singing and dancing at the same time, how to control my breath, knowing musical notes [or] how to structure a song.\u201d\n          <\/p>\n<p>\n            prettifun started making beats when he was 13, first on drum pads and then on DAWs, though he says he only got good at producing in the past couple years. Initially, his sound was a little closer to hyperpop or digicore, and then he discovered Pi\u2019erre Bourne. Fast forward a little, and \u201cez was like, \u2018you need to start rapping\u2019 [&#8230;] the first song I ever made, I have with him,\u201d prettifun recounts.\n          <\/p>\n<p>\n            Typical for the times, prettifun met most of his collaborators online, including the now-defunct collective 4ersona, whose loose ranks included skaiwater, Rich Amiri and che at various points. prettifun says the group helped him learn more about \u201cwhat to drop\u201d and \u201chow to have good friends,\u201d though he isn\u2019t exactly wistful.\n          <\/p>\n<div class=\"\" style=\"padding-bottom: 20px; margin-top: 20px; text-align: left;\">\n<\/div>\n<p>\n            \u201cIt feels like a distant ass memory, like that shit never really happened,\u201d he says. \u201cIt was just a bunch of kids sitting on the computer all day, making music, sending beats to each other and looking at Reels.\u201d\n          <\/p>\n<p>\n            \u201cFirst half of 2024, I was still in school because I had gotten held back a grade the year before off some bullshit, [and I ] didn\u2019t really know what the fuck I was doing in my career,\u201d prettifun explains of the past 18 months. \u201cBut that was around the time I was working with che on \u201c<a rel=\"nofollow\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_new\" href=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=yHLxZKLSkvo&amp;pp=ygUVcHJldHRpZnVuIG1pbGV5IGN5cnVz0gcJCccJAYcqIYzv\">miley cyrus,<\/a>\u201d and then we had talked about <i>Sayso Says<\/i> in <a href=\"https:\/\/buradabiliyorum.com\/en\/category\/general\/\" data-internallinksmanager029f6b8e52c=\"3\" title=\"General\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">general<\/a>, helping him with some sounds.\u201d\n          <\/p>\n<\/p><\/div>\n<\/p><\/div>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"content_block paragraph triple_gutter_right triple_gutter_left\">\n<div class=\"content_inner_wrapper\">\n<div class=\"\" style=\"padding-bottom: 20px; margin-top: 20px; text-align: left;\">\n<\/div><\/div>\n<\/p><\/div>\n<style>\n<\/style>\n<div id=\"content_block-272875\" class=\"content_block breaker triple_gutter_right triple_gutter_left pull_quote\">\n<div class=\"media_wrapper\">\n<blockquote class=\"pull_quote\"><p>I think a lot of the things that people have against each other could be fixed by simple communication [&#8230;] n***as don\u2019t really be beefing they just don\u2019t talk.\n<\/p><\/blockquote><\/div>\n<\/div>\n<style>\n<\/style>\n<div id=\"content_block-272868\" class=\"content_block paragraph text triple_gutter_right triple_gutter_left center_align\">\n<div class=\"content_inner_wrapper\">\n<div class=\"paragraph_wrapper center_align\">\n<p>\n            You can trace an essentially straight line from 4ersona to \u201cmiley cyrus,\u201d the prettifun-produced March 2024 single that crystallized the neon-hued wall-of-sound approach che deployed with dizzying aplomb on last fall\u2019s <i>Sayso Says<\/i>. Although that song, and the subsequent, even more successful \u201cPizza Time,\u201d didn\u2019t make the album\u2019s final tracklist, their maximalist juxtaposition of sprightly melodies and thought-stopping bass pushed che to some of his strongest vocal performances to-date. But the behind-the-boards success didn\u2019t quite translate into stability for prettifun.\n          <\/p>\n<p>\n            \u201cFast forward, \u201cmiley cyrus\u201d drops, I\u2019m still working at Food Lion, because being a producer, when you start out and you just getting placements, shit really not paying you too much. That\u2019s the real side of the industry. Fast forward to \u2018Pizza Time:\u2019 that drops, I quit everything. And that was when I started focusing more on my own music.\u201d\n          <\/p>\n<div class=\"\" style=\"padding-bottom: 20px; margin-top: 20px; text-align: left;\">\n<\/div>\n<p>\n            The buoyant toplines and burbling 808s on the self-produced <i>Pretti<\/i> scaled up the melodic undercurrent in prettifun\u2019s music, garnering a fervent community of fans who couldn\u2019t get enough of his cheery sing-raps. Initially intended as a deluxe, followup <i>FunHouse<\/i> called on a bevy of producers (including Ginseng, Iankon, gyro and legion), freeing up prettifun to focus more closely on his flows.\n          <\/p>\n<p>\n            \u201cThe beats I was looking for [on that project] were very synth heavy, bright, wide, colorful ass beats,\u201d prettifun says. \u201cI wanted to overload the senses.\u201d\n          <\/p>\n<\/p><\/div>\n<\/p><\/div>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"content_block paragraph triple_gutter_right triple_gutter_left\">\n<div class=\"content_inner_wrapper\">\n<div class=\"\" style=\"padding-bottom: 20px; margin-top: 20px; text-align: left;\">\n<\/div><\/div>\n<\/p><\/div>\n<style>\n<\/style>\n<div id=\"content_block-272871\" class=\"content_block breaker triple_gutter_right triple_gutter_left video\">\n<div class=\"media_wrapper\">\n<div class=\"video_wrapper\">\n<div class=\"fluid-width-video-wrapper\" style=\"padding-top: 56.25%;\">\n<p>    <iframe loading=\"lazy\" title=\"prettifun - Unfazed (Official Video)\" width=\"640\" height=\"360\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/RBKF3yjmWp8?feature=oembed\" frameborder=\"0\" allow=\"accelerometer; autoplay; clipboard-write; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture; web-share\" referrerpolicy=\"strict-origin-when-cross-origin\" allowfullscreen><\/iframe><\/p><\/div>\n<\/div>\n<p><script>\n \/\/trackYouTubeVideo('272871');\n<\/script><\/p><\/div>\n<\/div>\n<style>\n<\/style>\n<div id=\"content_block-272869\" class=\"content_block paragraph text triple_gutter_right triple_gutter_left center_align\">\n<div class=\"content_inner_wrapper\">\n<div class=\"paragraph_wrapper center_align\">\n<p>\n            Out now, <i>FunHouse Deluxe<\/i> attempts to unpack the past 10 months in 15 songs, rifling through designer clothing and striving to make his family proud. His hooks can be ecstatic (\u201cKisses\u201d), uncertain (\u201cSides\u201d), or ripe with grief (\u201cLast Wish\u201d); \u201cInternet\u201d is a \u201cvery angry song\u201d about \u201ca girl being so internet she doesn\u2019t know how to handle a basic interaction with you;\u201d he sounds less passionate flexing that $2,000 means nothing to him now (\u201cDifferent\u201d) than he does confessing he was still broke after blowing up (\u201cInfinity\u201d).  Despite the wide range of sentiment, these songs feel unified by their candor, a Technicolor inner monologue unspooling in real time.\n          <\/p>\n<p>\n            \u201cThat was one thing I really wanted to focus on,\u201d prettifun says. \u201cWith <i>Pretti<\/i> and <i>FunHouse<\/i>, I was trying to connect songs more through how they sounded. And with <i>FunHouse Deluxe<\/i>, I\u2019m connecting these songs through context. So I\u2019m talking about things that match up with the last song or the whole album, but things might not always sound the same, and that\u2019s where a lot of the emotional depth comes from.\u201d\n          <\/p>\n<div class=\"\" style=\"padding-bottom: 20px; margin-top: 20px; text-align: left;\">\n<\/div>\n<p>\n            The first song prettifun recorded for the album was \u201cidk wtf,\u201d but he \u201creally got back into the music bag for this year\u201d when he recorded \u201cFuck W Ya.\u201d\n          <\/p>\n<p>\n            \u201cI was angry when I made it,\u201d he says. With music, you need to have some sort of ego when you\u2019re in entertainment, but a lot of the problem I\u2019ve had with artists was just over shit that didn\u2019t need to happen.\u201d\n          <\/p>\n<p>\n            \u201cI think a lot of the things that people have against each other could be fixed by simple communication,\u201d he shrugs. \u201cLike I said [on \u201cSides\u201d], n***as don\u2019t really be beefing they just don\u2019t talk.\u201d\n          <\/p>\n<div class=\"\" style=\"padding-bottom: 20px; margin-top: 20px; text-align: left;\">\n<\/div><\/div>\n<\/p><\/div>\n<\/div>\n<style>\n<\/style>\n<div id=\"content_block-272870\" class=\"content_block paragraph text triple_gutter_right triple_gutter_left center_align\">\n<div class=\"content_inner_wrapper\">\n<div class=\"paragraph_wrapper center_align\">\n<p>\n            prettifun\u2019s music has always been deeply sincere, but rarely this transparent. Being more vulnerable on wax hasn\u2019t been easy, \u201cbut I knew that was never going to stop me,\u201d he says. \u201cThe more personal you get with your art, the more beautiful it becomes.\u201d By that measure, <i>FunHouse Deluxe<\/i> is prettifun\u2019s most beautiful album yet, aiming for good karma and pure catharsis.\n          <\/p>\n<p>\n            \u201cWhether it&#8217;s a sad song or I&#8217;m talking about something that&#8217;s deep, by the time when I&#8217;m done, I&#8217;m making sure that you get the message: <i>it&#8217;s going to be okay<\/i>. It\u2019s not just sad and then boom, song ends. There\u2019s optimism to it, there\u2019s hope in every song.
