We miss him so much, in fact, that when he randomly pops up in a commercial for a Canadian phone company \u2013 as he did last week \u2013 we all lose our damn minds. Moranis has been on hiatus from live-action <a href=\"https:\/\/buradabiliyorum.com\/en\/category\/watch-movies-tv-seriess\/\" data-internallinksmanager029f6b8e52c=\"8\" title=\"Watch Movies &amp; TV Series\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">movies<\/a> for 23 years \u2013 his wife,\u00a0Ann Belsky, died in 1991, and Moranis decided to take time off to raise his family in the wake. But he\u2019s continued doing voice work here and there and is even planning on returning to live-action roles with an upcoming\u00a0<em>Honey, I Shrunk the Kids<\/em> sequel. And while that\u2019s all well and good, something even more exciting has been revealed: someone pitched Adult Swim a cartoon featuring Moranis as the main character. And, oh yeah, the cartoon had Moranis fighting demons.<\/p>\n<h2><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"The_Gatekeeper\"><\/span><strong>The Gatekeeper<\/strong><span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h2>\n<p><iframe loading=\"lazy\" title=\"Our Rick Moranis idea wins Adult Swim Pitch Contest\" width=\"640\" height=\"360\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/GWQkHZVClbI?feature=oembed\" frameborder=\"0\" allow=\"accelerometer; autoplay; clipboard-write; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture; web-share\" referrerpolicy=\"strict-origin-when-cross-origin\" allowfullscreen><\/iframe><br \/>\n<!-- SlashFilm_300x250_In_Post -->In 2017, the folks at\u00a0Rare Bird <a href=\"https:\/\/buradabiliyorum.com\/en\/category\/game\/\" data-internallinksmanager029f6b8e52c=\"7\" title=\"Game\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Game<\/a>s learned that Adult Swim was having a pitch contest at San Diego Comic-Con. At the very last possible minute (while waiting in line), they came up with their idea \u2013 a show called\u00a0<strong><em>The Gatekeeper<\/em><\/strong>, where it turns out actor Rick Moranis is secretly \u201cthe gatekeeper between our world and hell itself.\u201d <a href=\"https:\/\/buradabiliyorum.com\/en\/category\/news\/\" data-internallinksmanager029f6b8e52c=\"2\" title=\"News\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">News<\/a> of the show broke today on both <a rel=\"nofollow noopener noreferrer\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.reddit.com\/r\/videos\/comments\/itge92\/back_in_2017_my_friend_pitched_a_rick_moranis\">Reddit<\/a> and the <a rel=\"nofollow noopener noreferrer\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/news.avclub.com\/we-were-robbed-this-cartoon-about-a-demon-slaying-rick-1845076203\">AV Club<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>The plot involves a teenage character discovering a box of cereal tied-in to the release of the 1997 movie\u00a0<em>Honey, We Shrunk Ourselves<\/em>. The box contains a contest that enables the winner to actually meet star Rick Moranis, and while the contest is clearly out-of-date, there\u2019s no expiration date. The teen enters, wins, and, sure enough, heads off to\u00a0Alberta, where Moranis is hiding out and defending our world from evil. And oh yeah, there\u2019s a giant praying mantis character named \u201cMorantis.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>It\u2019s an undeniably delightful idea, so much so that Adult Swim actually went for it. The team at Rare Bird Games, working with artists including\u00a0Joshua Barish from <em>Rick and Morty<\/em>, spent the next year developing the show. Sadly, Adult Swim ultimately passed on the idea because \u201cthey felt nobody would know who Rick Moranis was.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Had the show gone forward, there\u2019s no indication that Rick Moranis himself would\u2019ve voiced himself. But hey, we can still dream.
