ChatGPT&#8217;s citation consolidation began weeks earlier, suggesting OpenAI manually reweighted its retrieval system to favor useful answers.<\/p>\n<p><strong>The bigger picture<\/strong>. Some takeaways from <a rel=\"nofollow\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.linkedin.com\/posts\/joshua-blyskal_chatgpt-referral-traffic-is-down-52-since-activity-7364003556087005185-BaJ0\/\">Blyskal&#8217;s LinkedIn post<\/a>:<\/p>\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Branded content that prioritizes conversion (\u201cSchedule a demo\u201d) is getting passed over.<\/li>\n<li>Answer-first platforms like Reddit and Wikipedia win by default because they directly address user queries.<\/li>\n<li>&#8220;The citation opportunity is massive for brands willing to shift from conversion first to answer first content,&#8221; wrote Blyskal.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>Bottom line<\/strong>. OpenAI\u2019s citation experiments can trigger big traffic swings.
