Bryson Tiller has revealed why he never signed with Drake‘s record label, OVO Sound.<\/p>\n
Speaking on the New Rory & Mal<\/em> podcast, the R&B star detailed how he was eager to sign to Drake but chose to go in a different direction.<\/p>\n He explained: “I\u2019m being so blunt. Honest. The only reason I didn\u2019t sign [to OVO] is just because bro didn\u2019t hit me back one time. This was in a moment when my label, like, they was hounding me, they was flying me, they was trying to get me away from Drake.”<\/p>\n Tiller added: “I was like, ‘Yo, OVO is really in my blood, for real.’ I really have studied [Drake\u2019s] catalog. There\u2019s a couple of people that I really consider huge strands of my musical DNA, and Drake is one of them.”<\/p>\n He continued by revealing his reaction to signing with RCA: “I get there, and they\u2019re like, ‘Yeah, we\u2019re here to sign with RCA.’ I was pissed about it.”<\/p>\n Tiller also revealed that he messaged Drake before making a final decision: “He never hit back. And I know he just busy, super busy dude. I\u2019m not saying that he didn\u2019t want me to sign or whatever, but at that moment, like, I had a kid; people back home that\u2019s looking at me like, ‘Is he gonna do it? Is he gonna make it?’ So I had to go with what was the most sure shot.”<\/p>\n Tiller previously said in 2015 about the deal: \u201cIt was hard for me. As much as the whole Timbo thing made me feel like, \u2018I\u2019m buzzing out here, I\u2019m about to do it,\u2019 there was a lot of times where I really got discouraged and was just like, \u2018Man, this ain\u2019t gonna work. I don\u2019t even wanna be an artist,\u2019 just thinking negative things. I\u2019m a real pessimistic person at times. So I just started thinking, \u2018I need to sign to OVO or else I\u2019m not gonna be anybody. I need to go ahead and do this, this is what I want. This is how it\u2019s supposed to happ<\/a>en. I did the songs, the dope songs, Drake heard them and now he wants to sign me.\u2019<\/p>\n “I thought that was the plan, or God\u2019s plan, but everything just went differently. That was one of the biggest decisions I ever had to make in my life. I\u2019m super na\u00efve when it comes to making business decisions. I signed to two independent labels before and neither of them worked out.
