Snoop Dogg has been called out by left wing Australian senator Sarah Hanson-Young over his planned performance at the 2025 AFL Grand Final.<\/p>\n
During an address to the senate, Hanson-Young targeted Snoop and called for him to be removed from the game<\/a>’s entertainment next month.<\/p>\n She said: \u201cThe irony is not lost on many of us that while Izak Rankine gets dumped, Snoop Dogg gets $2 million to play his misogynistic, homophobic music on our turf.”<\/p>\n Hanson-Young also called Snoop a “slur merchant”.<\/p>\n<\/p>\n The decision to book Snoop was defended by AFL CEO Andrew Dillon, who said: \u201cIt is also important to remember that we engaged Snoop Dogg in 2025 as the person he is today. He has spoken publicly about his past, he has changed, and today he is a grandfather, philanthropist, he helps rehabilitate youth and is a global entertainer who has performed at both the Super Bowl and the Olympic Closing Ceremony.\u201d<\/p>\n Snoop recently made controversial anti-gay comments regarding inclusivity in children’s films.<\/p>\n Speaking on the\u00a0It\u2019s Giving<\/em>\u00a0podcast, Snoop voiced his opposition to a lesbian relationship app<\/a>earing in the film,\u00a0Lightyear<\/em>.<\/p>\n He said: \u201cWhy my grandson in the middle of the movie like, \u2018Papa Snoop, how she have a baby with a woman? She a woman.\u2019 I didn\u2019t come here for this shit. I just came to watch the goddamn movie.\u201d<\/p>\n The rap legend continued: \u201cSo it\u2019s like, fuck me, I\u2019m scared to go to the movies<\/a> now. Like, y\u2019all throwing me in the middle of shit that I don\u2019t have an answer for.<\/p>\n \u201cIt threw me for a loop,\u201d Snoop said about his grandson\u2019s curiosity. \u201cWe have to show that at this age? Like, they\u2019re going to ask questions. I don\u2019t have the answer.\u201d<\/p>\n The same sex relationship in the film was a controversial point among conservative groups when Lightyear<\/em> was released in 2022 with many right wing commentators decrying it.<\/p>\n The film\u2019s star, Chris Evans, hit back at critics in a statement, saying: \u201cEvery time there\u2019s been social<\/a> advancement as we wake up, the American story, the human story is one of constant social awakening and growth and that\u2019s what makes us good. There\u2019s always going to be people who are afraid and unaware and trying to hold on to what was before. But those people die off like dinosaurs.
