Depending on your perspective, the Eight of Cups symbolizes walking away or walking towards, the end of one way of life and the beginning of another. For Earl Sweatshirt, the tarot card\u2019s meaning on \u201cCRISCO\u201d is decidedly more earthly: his son just took a shit. These im<a href=\"https:\/\/buradabiliyorum.com\/en\/category\/social-mediaa\/\" data-internallinksmanager029f6b8e52c=\"1\" title=\"Social Media\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">media<\/a>te, mundane concerns underpin Earl\u2019s fifth studio album <i>Live Laugh Love<\/i>, a placid record primarily concerned with the r<a href=\"https:\/\/buradabiliyorum.com\/en\/category\/download-scripts-themes-apps\/\" data-internallinksmanager029f6b8e52c=\"9\" title=\"Download Scripts &amp; Themes &amp; Apps\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">app<\/a>er\u2019s domestic life. If his past records were marked by anger \u2013 directed outward as caustic jabs and political credos, curdled inward as sorrow and anxiety \u2013 his latest feels animated by discipline and higher purpose. On the album\u2019s third-to-last verse, Earl recounts dreaming, years ago, of his newborn son crawling on the ceiling, \u201cand I had never seent him.\u201d Fast-forward and <i>Live Laugh Love<\/i> is happy to be dutifully present in the moment.\n          <\/p>\n<div class=\"\" style=\"padding-bottom: 20px; margin-top: 20px; text-align: left;\">\n<\/div>\n<p>\n            On the surface, not much has changed. But even <a rel=\"nofollow\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_new\" href=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=Z94bTp9fhH0\">his earliest, most vile music<\/a> kept his beating heart on its sleeve, a thread that\u2019s continued as his subject matter has grown headier. Whether writing to find balance and doing \u201cwhat I have to with the fragments\u201d (2022\u2019s \u201cTabula Rasa\u201d) or sketching out the emotional strain of his childhood and instant fame on \u201cChum\u201d (\u201cSupposed to be grateful right? \/ Like \u2018thanks so much, you made my life harder,\u2019\u201d he sneered at <i>Complex<\/i> upon his return to Samoa), his most vulnerable raps often prioritized telling over showing, determined to reclaim the narrative from listeners\u2019 projections. And while a lesser lyricist might have come off patronizing or pandering, Earl\u2019s intricate syntax and raw emotions kept his direct addresses from slipping into overtly cheesy territory.\n          <\/p>\n<p>\n            Where past albums played on the tension between Earl\u2019s plain-spoken feelings and the abstract imagery undergirding his dense flows, <i>Live Laugh Love<\/i> is lax and languid. He\u2019s still prone to shoehorn in a rabbit hole-worthy allusion (\u201clet it sing sing on ya like a Voice from East Harlem\u201d) or toss off an extended metaphor like, \u201cFlying in on the wide eye of the maelstrom, wild side that I hail from \/ I see you ain&#8217;t moved in a while \/ Ain&#8217;t gon&#8217; lie, you probably should get your sails up.\u201d But where these tricks were previously deployed to prove his skills to casual onlookers, they\u2019ve since become full-fledged motifs and flows, habitual instead of regimented. Ironically, being more grounded makes these songs less emotive than those on 2015\u2019s bleak <i>I Don\u2019t Like Shit, I Don\u2019t Go Outside<\/i> or 2018\u2019s jittery, freewheeling opus <i>Some Rap Songs<\/i>. Consider how alcohol fueled the recording sessions for those projects and <i>Sick!<\/i>, and you get the sense that sobriety and stability have dramatically reduced the pressure on Earl in recent years. \u201cThe earth mother gave the sun a lap, it sat me on my ass,\u201d he announces on \u201cINFATUATION.\u201d\n          <\/p>\n<div class=\"\" style=\"padding-bottom: 20px; margin-top: 20px; text-align: left;\">\n<\/div>\n<p>\n            In turn, it seems the fervor and passion that previously animated his high-drama musical grapplings is now being channeled into fatherhood, which might be why <i>Live Laugh Love<\/i> feels less immediately gripping than prior solo outings. Instead, Earl\u2019s slice-of-life raps trace a scenic route through the emotional landscape, assured that listeners will follow him off the beaten path. \u201cGleaning what I can from what I have amassed,\u201d he shrugs. \u201cI\u2019m sticking with simple plans \/ I\u2019m just a man.\u201d\n          <\/p>\n<\/p><\/div>\n<\/p><\/div>\n<\/div>\n<style>\n<\/style>\n<div id=\"content_block-273616\" class=\"content_block paragraph text triple_gutter_right triple_gutter_left center_align\">\n<div class=\"content_inner_wrapper\">\n<div class=\"paragraph_wrapper center_align\">\n<p>\n            Earl has characterized <i>Sick!<\/i> as something of a last hurrah for his roaring twenties, and Alchemist collab \/ NFT drop <i>VOIR DIRE<\/i> broadly scanned as similarly low-stakes. So although this isn\u2019t his first album as a parent, <i>Live Laugh Love<\/i> feels like the first to truly focus on Earl as a father. Naturally, this invites comparison to other parenthood-preoccupied projects like JAY-Z\u2019s <i>4:44<\/i> or Kendrick Lamar\u2019s <i>Mr. Morale &amp; The Big Steppers<\/i>.
