This underscores the fractured state of brand exposure in AI search.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>By the numbers. <\/strong>Just 33.5% of queries included brands across all three platforms, and only 4.6% had no brands mentioned anywhere. Other key findings:<\/p>\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><strong>Google AI Overviews dominate:<\/strong> Google\u2019s AI Overviews surfaced brands in 36.8% of queries, while ChatGPT led in just 3.9%.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Brand density:<\/strong> Google AI Overviews averaged <strong>6.02 brands per query<\/strong>, more than 2.5x higher than ChatGPT\u2019s 2.37 and far ahead of AI Mode\u2019s 1.59.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Silence rates:<\/strong> ChatGPT offered no brand mentions in 43.4% of queries. Google AI Mode stayed silent 46.8% of the time, compared to just 9.1% for AIO.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>The citation paradox. <\/strong>The study also uncovered stark differences in citation behavior:<\/p>\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>ChatGPT mentions more than it cites, with 3.2x more brand mentions (2.37) than citations (0.73).<\/li>\n<li>Google AI Overviews cites far more than it mentions (14.30 citations vs. 6.02 mentions).<\/li>\n<li>Google AI Mode shows an even bigger gap \u2014 6x more citations than mentions (9.49 vs. 1.59).<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>This data may suggest that ChatGPT\u2019s responses lean heavily on its training patterns, while Google emphasizes visible source attribution.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Where platforms align. <\/strong>The rare moments of brand alignment depended on query intent:<\/p>\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><strong>Compare queries:<\/strong> 80% same-brand agreement.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Buy queries:<\/strong> 62%.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Where queries:<\/strong> 38%.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Best queries:<\/strong> 23%.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>Industry breakdown. <\/strong>Disagreement rates also varied by sector:<\/p>\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><strong>Healthcare:<\/strong> 68.5%<\/li>\n<li><strong>Education:<\/strong> 62.1%<\/li>\n<li><strong>B2B Tech: <\/strong>61.7%<\/li>\n<li><strong>Finance:<\/strong> 57.9%<\/li>\n<li><strong>Ecommerce:<\/strong> 57.1% (lowest)<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>Why we care.<\/strong> For brands, these findings highlight a volatile AI landscape where visibility is far from guaranteed \u2013 and often inconsistent.
