Erykah Badu has blamed The Alchemist for the delay in releasing their collaborative project.<\/p>\n
On Instagram Live, just hours before the scheduled release of Abi & Alan<\/em>, Badu revealed that fans would have to wait a little bit longer for the project.<\/p>\n She said: \u201cThe Alchemist told me to tell y\u2019all the album is not dropping at midnight.”<\/p>\n Badu did not reveal a new release date for the album.<\/p>\n<\/p>\n The iconic singer announced the unexpected collaboration in March.<\/p>\n Badu and the legendary producer\u00a0first teased a collab back in December 2024, when Alc posted a series<\/a> of photos showing them in the lab.<\/p>\n He captioned the montage \u201cLife altering,\u201d but didn\u2019t elaborate any further as to what they were working on.<\/p>\n Erykah Badu\u2019s last studio album was March 2010\u2019s\u00a0New Amerykah Part Two (Return of the Ankh)<\/em>, which debuted at No. 4 on the Billboard 200. Later that year she released her first and only compilation album,\u00a0Icon<\/em>, and in 2015, she released her first and only mixtape,\u00a0But You Caint Use My Phone<\/em>.<\/p>\n Since then, the elusive artist has only jumped on a handful of features \u2013 most recently being\u00a0Rapsody\u2018s\u00a0 Grammy Award-winning \u201c3:AM.\u201d<\/p>\n The track is an ode to the joys of late night love and features both artists paying homage to the people that make them feel best.<\/p>\n Rapsody spits: \u201cYou feel like a healer\/ I know I\u2019m imperfect\/ Tho you make me feel like Jesus\/ Or how God sees us\/ Not afraid to show my insecurities like Issa,<\/em>\u201d cleverly referring to Issa Rae\u2019s TV show\u00a0Insecure<\/em>.<\/p>\n She adds: \u201cEverything I hid you always peeped it\/ When it\u2019s darkest we always attract\/ The brightest people\/ Baby, you a light\/ You shift my whole world to the right\/ Nothing left but<\/em>.\u201d<\/p>\n The duo first performed the song together\u00a0at Badu\u2019s 53rd birthday celebrations in Dallas last February.<\/p>\n Of the song, Rapsody told\u00a0VIBE<\/em><\/a>: \u201c[\u201c3:AM\u201d is] the one record I have enjoyed the most because it was a process, and getting to know [Badu] more and building a deeper friendship. [\u2026] She taught me, just in that one song and interacting the way we did, that art can\u2019t be rushed; you take your time and really get what you want to say and how you want to say and live with it. So that was a beautiful experience.
