\n George Floyd\u2019s 6-year-old daughter has only been told that her dad died \u201cbecause he couldn\u2019t breathe,\u201d as her mother tries to protect her from the truth that has sparked national outrage.<\/p>\n

Mom Roxie Washington told Good Morning America Wednesday that Floyd\u2019s daughter, Gianna, misses her dad but is not aware that he died in an encounter with Minneapolis police on Memorial Day, when viral footage shows him pinned by a cop\u2019s knee while pleading for air.<\/p>\n

\u201cShe said, \u2018I hear them. I hear them say my daddy\u2019s name,’\u201d Washington told GMA\u2019s Eva Pilgrim. \u201cAnd I told her, she doesn\u2019t know, I told her that her dad died because he couldn\u2019t breathe.\u201d<\/p>\n

She said Floyd adored his little girl, and had moved to Minneapolis to help provide her a better life.<\/p>\n

One video played during Wednesday\u2019s interview shows Gianna on her father\u2019s shoulders, saying, \u201cDaddy changed the world.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cKind of I miss him,\u201d Gianna said on GMA. \u201cHe played with me.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cShe didn\u2019t have to play with nobody else,\u201d Washington said. \u201cBecause daddy was gonna play with her all day long. I mean, that was his baby. He loved his little girl.\u201d<\/p>\n

Washington recalled learning of Floyd\u2019s death on TV after getting a call about the incident and turning on the TV.<\/p>\n

\u201cI watched it only for a moment because I was like, \u2018I can\u2019t believe,’\u201d she sobbed. \u201cI couldn\u2019t believe that somebody was doing him like that. I wish I could\u2019ve been there to help him.\u201d<\/p>\n
