\n Traditional ghouls and goblins won\u2019t cut it for Halloween in 2020, so a Los Angeles-based artist created something even scarier: the so-called \u201cKaren\u201d mask.<\/p>\n

Jason Adcock showed off his handmade, latex mask of an angry, middle-aged white woman last month on social media<\/a>, saying it\u2019s never too early to get into the Halloween spirit.<\/p>\n

\u201c2020 is the year of the KAREN!\u201d Adcock exclaimed on Instagram<\/a>. \u201cScare all [your] friends with [your] big hair and narrow mind.\u201d<\/p>\n

Days later, Adcock debuted a second mask to his 6,000 followers<\/a>, coining the frightening, over-the-top disguise with protruding eyes, reddened skin and pus-filled bumps as the \u201cKAREN-19\u201d \u2014 an app<\/a>arent nod to COVID-19.<\/p>\n

\u201cShe thought she was slick calling you sheep and look what happened,\u201d Adcock wrote.<\/p>\n

Two versions of the masks were selling on Etsy for $180 apiece, Adcock told \u201cGood Morning America\u201d on Tuesday<\/a>, but they\u2019ve since sold out, he announced on Facebook.<\/p>\n

\u201cI will update if things change,\u201d Adcock wrote late Tuesday.<\/p>\n

Adcock said he didn\u2019t think the masks would be a hit, but assumed they would make a few people laugh and turn some heads in the process.<\/p>\n

\u201cKaren is transcendent of all gender and size,\u201d he told GMA. \u201cShe is just like a modern-day tyrant. Anybody evil can be a Karen.\u201d<\/p>\n

Adcock claimed in a Facebook post that his \u201cKaren\u201d creations will undoubtedly be the scariest get-up of Halloween.<\/p>\n

\u201cShe loves red states, expired coupons, hairspray, bare minerals and her gated community,\u201d Adcock joked last month<\/a>. \u201cFull head latex mask with lashes and full head of \u2018speak to the manager\u2019 hair.\u201d<\/p>\n

The masks were an instant hit with many online, although a few critics still had some suggestions for Adcock.<\/p>\n

\u201cJason you have this soooo wrong!\u201d one reply read. \u201cA \u2018Karen\u2019 mask should be an attractive middle aged Caucasian with clear skin (Botox) and perfect teeth all of which shows her \u2018white privilege\u2019 and wealth!\u201d<\/p>\n

But, like other real-life Karens who don\u2019t appreciate the popular social media moniker, not everyone is a fan.<\/p>\n

\u201cSo hating on white people isn\u2019t considered racism apparently,\u201d one Instagram reply read.<\/p>\n

Another detractor, a black woman, said she found the mask to be a \u201ctotal insult\u201d to women named Karen, especially those with blonde hair.<\/p>\n

\u201cI consider myself a good person,\u201d the reply read. \u201cNot EVIL. You should have named this THING \u2013 EVIL \u2026 Why a persons name [?]\u201d<\/p>\n

Adcock, for his part, has brushed off the backlash he\u2019s received over the masks.<\/p>\n

\u201cJust take it for what it is: a funny Halloween mask,\u201d he told GMA. \u201cI\u2019m not here to ruin anybody\u2019s day. I\u2019m just trying to make people laugh.\u201d\n <\/p><\/div>\n
