All I know for sure is that it has a popular person as a protagonist and it\u2019s set in high school. An incredibly vague image, to be sure, but since I have a predilection for youth stories, it was enough to make me want to check out at least one episode of the show.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 12pt\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">However, the reason I\u2019m looking forward to the anime so much is because of its <\/span><a rel=\"nofollow\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=HintXCQ2G5M\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">teaser trailer<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">, and the fact that it\u2019s <\/span><a rel=\"nofollow\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/anilist.co\/staff\/143233\/Yuuji-Tokuno\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Yuji Tokuno\u2019s<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400\"> debut as series director. Tokuno first caught my eye with the visuals of\u3010<\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">OSHI NO KO<\/span><\/i><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">\u3011<\/span><\/i> <span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Episode 10, and later again with the impactful staging of <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">YAIBA: Samurai Legend<\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400\"> Episode 6. Hence, when I saw their name in the staff lineup, my interest shot up considerably.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;font-size: 12pt\">The teaser trailer solidified my anticipation, bathing me in an atmosphere that felt both sparkly and wistful, and teasing me with some really eye-catching shots \u2014 the one that observes someone climbing up the stairs through the wellhole is the kind of bonkers framing I live for. But now that an anime adaptation looms on the horizon\u2026 Well, I can\u2019t stave off the doomed yuri forever!<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 12pt\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">When high school student Hinako nearly gets eaten by a<\/span> <span style=\"font-weight: 400\">monster, she is saved by the mermaid Shiori, who vows to protect her \u2014 with the stipulation that she\u2019ll get to eat Hinako once she matures into the perfect meal. In the main trailer, Hinako seems quite eager to fulfill this agreement, even hoping Shiori will devour her sooner than later. I\u2019m curious to see how (or if) the show will parallel the girls\u2019 queerness to their literal, voracious instinct: this desire to consume or be consumed by another person, and the paradoxical fear of how palpable that emotion becomes.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;font-size: 12pt\">Admittedly, I am not as drawn to the animation as I am to the potential of its premise. While the eerie gazes of both the main girls are quite striking, the rest of their character design feels akin to many coming-of-age school anime, and the \u201chorror\u201d aspect so far seems limited to the occasional blood splatter. But before love can blossom, I can\u2019t help but wonder: how would such a romance even begin?\u00a0\u00a0<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;font-size: 12pt\">When I first saw the name and trailer for this upcoming anime, I simply thought I was in for a standard high school romance. Mari, the main female character, even starts off by mentioning her ordinary school life. Of course, when a character says something like that, it turns out to be anything but ordinary, yet I assumed that it would be a simple twist or gimmick that would influence her life. Yet, within seconds of watching the trailer, I had to throw all my expectations away when a light blue dog\/fox-like character named Tsunagu appeared on-screen. Although I found Tsunagu\u2019s towering size a little unbelievable for a high schooler, his presence im<a href=\"https:\/\/buradabiliyorum.com\/en\/category\/social-mediaa\/\" data-internallinksmanager029f6b8e52c=\"1\" title=\"Social Media\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">media<\/a>tely made him stand out, and I wonder why he transferred into a school where he sticks out like a sore thumb.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;font-size: 12pt\">Despite this twist, the trailer still has the typical visuals of a romance anime, such as soft spring colors and cute chibi moments that spotlight the characters\u2019 emotions. So I became excited when Aniplex finally released more information about the series. I can finally get to see all my favorite characters come to life in this new adaptation this coming fall season!<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 12pt\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Although this anime will be based on the manga adaptations rather than the <a href=\"https:\/\/buradabiliyorum.com\/en\/category\/game\/\" data-internallinksmanager029f6b8e52c=\"7\" title=\"Game\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">game<\/a> itself, I have very high expectations. The animation looks amazing, especially the character designs. They were adapted so well and are similar to the character designs that <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Black Butler<\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">\u2019s author, <\/span><b>Yana Toboso<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">, did for the game. Many of the voice actors are also reprising their roles in the series aside from <\/span><b>Yuken Enma<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">, the main protagonist of the season, making my expectations for the anime shoot up through the roof as I imagine them saying their famous lines once more.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;font-size: 12pt\">Admittedly, I am already a fan of this franchise and will watch the series whether or not this adaptation does well.
