{"id":692473,"date":"2025-09-28T16:55:12","date_gmt":"2025-09-28T13:55:12","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/buradabiliyorum.com\/en\/how-irys-strikes-a-unique-balance\/"},"modified":"2025-09-28T16:55:12","modified_gmt":"2025-09-28T13:55:12","slug":"how-irys-strikes-a-unique-balance","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/buradabiliyorum.com\/en\/how-irys-strikes-a-unique-balance\/","title":{"rendered":"How IRyS Strikes a Unique Balance"},"content":{"rendered":"<div>\n<p style=\"font-size:16px\">On the weekend of August 23rd, renown VTuber agency <strong>hololive<\/strong> took over Radio City Music Hall in New York City for its English branch\u2019s 3rd concert: \u201cAll for One.\u201d The concert <a rel=\"nofollow\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/all-for-one.hololivepro.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">featured performances from holoEN\u2019s fifteen talents<\/a>, along with <a href=\"https:\/\/buradabiliyorum.com\/en\/category\/download-scripts-themes-apps\/\" data-internallinksmanager029f6b8e52c=\"9\" title=\"Download Scripts &amp; Themes &amp; Apps\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">app<\/a>earances by their Japanese counterparts, culminating in an original group song by the same name.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p style=\"font-size:16px\">Only a day prior, popular convention <a href=\"https:\/\/buradabiliyorum.com\/en\/category\/anime-manga\/\" data-internallinksmanager029f6b8e52c=\"6\" title=\"Anime || Manga\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Anime<\/a>NYC <a rel=\"nofollow\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/hololive.hololivepro.com\/en\/events\/hololivestage25\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">hosted the ongoing \u201chololive STAGE World Tour \u201925 -Synchronize!-\u201d <\/a>featuring a line-up set to perform around the world.<\/p>\n<p style=\"font-size:16px\">Half-angel, half-demon VTuber <strong>IRyS<\/strong> performed for both shows, taking the stage on all three days. Anime Trending had the exclusive opportunity to interview IRyS about VTubing, the NYC concerts, and her love for Eurobeat.\u00a0<\/p>\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator has-alpha-channel-opacity\"\/>\n<p style=\"font-size:16px\"><strong>Radio City Music Hall, New York City. How was it?\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n<p style=\"font-size:16px\"><strong>IRyS: <\/strong>It was absolutely amazing. Being able to see such an amazing and historical venue, and being able to actually perform as a VTuber \u2014 something that is very recent as a cultural phenomenon \u2014 is absolutely wonderful.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p style=\"font-size:16px\">I still think it\u2019s like a dream come true. And it was a great show!<\/p>\n<p style=\"font-size:16px\">My solo song was \u201cDIAMOND GIRLFRIEND,\u201d which is a song that I released not-quite-a-year-ago for my birthday. Recently I\u2019ve been into the Eurobeat genre. I\u2019ve been indulging- diving into the Eurobeat genre for my [own] music.<\/p>\n<p style=\"font-size:16px\">Eurobeat is something that I discovered through the anime <em>Initial D<\/em>.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p style=\"font-size:16px\"><em>Initial D<\/em> is a racing anime that includes a lot of cool Eurobeat tracks and I discovered how wonderful the genre is. I love listening to Eurobeat while doing housework, which I hate to do unless I listen to something.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>It was also a genre that I don\u2019t think was touched on by hololive [members]. I thought it was a good niche to try out and, thankfully, it was also well received when I released my first Eurobeat song \u201cCarbonated Love!\u201d<\/p>\n<p style=\"font-size:16px\">\u201cDIAMOND GIRLFRIEND\u201d is a follow up to that. I did perform \u201cCarbonated Love\u201d for <em>Breaking Dimensions<\/em>. So I thought it would be a good idea to continue up on that and sing \u201cDIAMOND GIRLFRIEND\u201d for this year\u2019s concert.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p style=\"font-size:16px\">Plus I thought that \u201cDIAMOND GIRLFRIEND\u201d is a <em>hype song<\/em> \u2014 that is, a song that becomes complete with the audience cheering to the chorus. It is a very cheerful song and I feel the audience had a lot of fun with it. I\u2019m really glad with how it turned out.\u00a0<\/p>\n<figure class=\"wp-block-embed is-type-video is-provider-youtube wp-block-embed-youtube wp-embed-aspect-16-9 wp-has-aspect-ratio\">\n<p>\n<iframe loading=\"lazy\" title=\"IRyS -  DIAMOND GIRLFRIEND feat.MOTSU\u3010Original Song 3D MV\u3011\" width=\"640\" height=\"360\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/EXM0EE_NpQc?feature=oembed\" frameborder=\"0\" allow=\"accelerometer; autoplay; clipboard-write; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture; web-share\" referrerpolicy=\"strict-origin-when-cross-origin\" allowfullscreen><\/iframe>\n<\/p><figcaption class=\"wp-element-caption\">\u201cDIAMOND GIRLFRIEND\u201d by IRyS (feat. MOTSU)<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p style=\"font-size:16px\"><strong>For \u201cDIAMOND GIRLFRIEND,\u201d you worked with MOTSU, is that correct?\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n<p style=\"font-size:16px\"><strong>IRyS: <\/strong>Yes, I did. <strong>MOTSU<\/strong>-san is a very famous rapper and song creator for a lot of actual <em>Initial D<\/em> openings. He didn\u2019t write the songs for the <em>Initial D<\/em> openings, but he was rapping and part of the group that made the songs move. I really liked their music.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p style=\"font-size:16px\">He also did write the songs for the anime <em>MF Ghost,<\/em> which is- not a sequel to <em>Initial D<\/em>, but like in the same universe by the same author. So kind of an<em> Initial D<\/em> spin off. I really like his past songs, like \u201cJungle Fire\u201d with <strong>Yu Serizawa<\/strong>, and I wanted to [make] a song like that, especially since I was diving into the Eurobeat genre.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p style=\"font-size:16px\">I thought it would be awesome if I was able to collab with such a Eurobeat legend. And thankfully, it happened. I\u2019m very happy with the result.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p style=\"font-size:16px\"><strong>When you released \u201cCarbonated Love,\u201d you were surprised with how much your audience already loved Eurobeat. Back then, is this where you expected to take it?<\/strong><\/p>\n<p style=\"font-size:16px\"><strong>IRyS: <\/strong>No, I did not. Since \u201cCarbonated Love\u201d was great, and I really liked how it turned out too, I wanted to release another Eurobeat song.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p style=\"font-size:16px\">If I could get MOTSU in it, that would be great. It was very much a <em>damemoto<\/em> \u2014 asking for something that you weren\u2019t expecting to get, but that would be amazing. It would be a dream if I could do it, but I wouldn\u2019t be surprised if I got a \u201cno.\u201d So when I did get \u201cyes, MOTSU\u00a0 is willing to collaborate with you,\u201d I was just absolutely jumping for joy.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p style=\"font-size:16px\">MOTSU has been in the music industry \u2014 has been writing songs and is pretty much a legend \u2014 for such a long time. So it really is a big honor to be able to do a song with such an amazing person.<\/p>\n<p style=\"font-size:16px\">I never imagined that it would be like this. It\u2019s absolutely amazing. And I hope that in the future I can do similar collaborations with other Eurobeat legends. That would be amazing.<\/p>\n<p style=\"font-size:16px\"><strong>Is there more Eurobeat on the horizon for us?\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n<p style=\"font-size:16px\"><strong>IRyS: <\/strong>Yes, definitely. I do also want to dive into the subgenres of Eurobeat so that not everything is Eurobeat per se. But I would say that as of now \u2014 my current <em>feeling<\/em> \u2014\u00a0 I really do want to dive more into the Eurobeat genre in <a href=\"https:\/\/buradabiliyorum.com\/en\/category\/general\/\" data-internallinksmanager029f6b8e52c=\"3\" title=\"General\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">general<\/a>.<\/p>\n<figure class=\"wp-block-embed is-type-video is-provider-youtube wp-block-embed-youtube wp-embed-aspect-16-9 wp-has-aspect-ratio\">\n<p>\n<iframe loading=\"lazy\" title=\"IRyS - Carbonated Love\u3010Original Song 3D MV\u3011\" width=\"640\" height=\"360\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/DjNNpw2x2dU?feature=oembed\" frameborder=\"0\" allow=\"accelerometer; autoplay; clipboard-write; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture; web-share\" referrerpolicy=\"strict-origin-when-cross-origin\" allowfullscreen><\/iframe>\n<\/p><figcaption class=\"wp-element-caption\">\u201cCarbonated Love\u201d by IRyS<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p style=\"font-size:16px\"><strong>After you performed your first live at hololive 4th fes., you talked on stream about being stunned by the whole ordeal. How has that changed? Do you still feel the same way in New York today?\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n<p style=\"font-size:16px\"><strong>IRyS: <\/strong>Yeah. I would say that I\u2019ve gotten much more used to performing in front of a large audience.<\/p>\n<p style=\"font-size:16px\">At my first [hololive fes.], I remember it was nerve wracking, performing in front of a live audience where you can actually <em>see<\/em> them. Even doing MC, I just didn\u2019t know what to say. I stumbled.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p style=\"font-size:16px\">Compared to [then], I have gotten much more used to it.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p style=\"font-size:16px\">I feel much more comfortable and I can concentrate more on my performance. I was able to interact more with the crowd compared to the past where I was just out of it, honestly.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p style=\"font-size:16px\"><strong>Is there anything you enjoy doing when it comes to crowd interaction?<\/strong><\/p>\n<p style=\"font-size:16px\"><strong>IRyS: <\/strong>It really depends also on who I\u2019m interacting to the crowd with. When we do MC we are either in pairs or trios. So depending on who my partner is at that time, we do something different or we try to think up something different.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p style=\"font-size:16px\">Typical crowd interactions are usually \u201cdo the wave,\u201d or \u201cchange your penlight colors,\u201d and we used to do that pretty often. Since it\u2019s already been three, four years, we decided maybe we should do something different.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p style=\"font-size:16px\">So this year, what did I do for the first day? It was with [<strong>Tokoyami Towa<\/strong>] who doesn\u2019t speak that much English. So it was fun to teach her English along with my fellow EN member <strong>Kronii<\/strong>-san. I don\u2019t even know if it was actually New York slang, but we taught her something that was basically a meme and it was a lot of fun.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p style=\"font-size:16px\">So instead of interacting directly with the crowd, we would interact with each other in a way that would raise hype inside the crowd. And that was a lot of fun.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p style=\"font-size:16px\">On the second day I was with <strong>Kiara<\/strong>. We did arm wrestling, because that is very much a staple in hololive. We arm wrestle each other with a live [audience] reaction.<\/p>\n<p style=\"font-size:16px\">We\u2019re very serious about it. I was going full-on hard in the arm wrestling against Kiara.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p style=\"font-size:16px\">So rather than calling to the crowd, we would interact with each other to have a lot of fun with everybody in the audience.\u00a0<\/p>\n<figure class=\"wp-block-embed is-type-video is-provider-youtube wp-block-embed-youtube wp-embed-aspect-16-9 wp-has-aspect-ratio\">\n<p>\n<iframe loading=\"lazy\" title=\"\u3010Amnesia: The Bunker\u3011The Bunker at My Bunker with CC!\u3010Off Collab\u3011\" width=\"640\" height=\"360\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/-k2v7ODJIck?feature=oembed\" frameborder=\"0\" allow=\"accelerometer; autoplay; clipboard-write; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture; web-share\" referrerpolicy=\"strict-origin-when-cross-origin\" allowfullscreen><\/iframe>\n<\/p><figcaption class=\"wp-element-caption\">Timestamp: the infamous arm wrestle between IRyS and Cecilia Immergreen<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p style=\"font-size:16px\"><strong>Is the experience streaming different between English and Japanese? People who are bilingual, often code switch between languages. Do you experience that at all? Do you think the culture is different between the EN and the Japanese talents?\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n<p style=\"font-size:16px\"><strong>IRyS: <\/strong>I definitely do feel there is a cultural difference in a good way.<\/p>\n<p style=\"font-size:16px\">Say, when interacting with fellow EN members: because we\u2019re a smaller group \u2014 right now there\u2019s a total of fifteen of us \u2014 there are a lot more chances for interaction between each other. So we\u2019re very comfortable with each other.<\/p>\n<p style=\"font-size:16px\">English is a very casual language compared to Japanese. You can say things very straightforward. You can be very direct, and easily be friendly from the first conversation.<\/p>\n<p style=\"font-size:16px\">Even walking around New York, I noticed people are so [open] compared to- when you\u2019re in Japan, nobody talks to you in the elevator like, \u201coh, nice shoes,\u201d or anything like that.<\/p>\n<p style=\"font-size:16px\">It\u2019s very much like an American- or English Speaking culture [thing]. Between EN talents, it\u2019s much easier to talk and be friendly.<\/p>\n<p style=\"font-size:16px\">Whereas amongst Japanese members, obviously, I try to be friendly, I try to have fun. But at the same time, since it\u2019s Japanese, it\u2019s a very polite language. So when there is a part of me that is very careful. I try to be careful with what I say so that it doesn\u2019t come off as casual.<\/p>\n<p style=\"font-size:16px\">You don\u2019t want to be too casual. Especially because most of the JP Japanese members are also my <em>Senpais<\/em>, they\u2019ve been around [for longer]. I\u2019d say hololive isn\u2019t very <em>senpai-kohai<\/em>, it\u2019s not a huge hierarchy, but it\u2019s still a tradition to respect your senpais. Because that\u2019s just Japanese culture.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p style=\"font-size:16px\">Every company is like that to some degree. So I am definitely a little bit more nervous talking to JP members, except for the ones I\u2019m [already] super comfortable with, the ones I talk to all the time.<\/p>\n<p style=\"font-size:16px\">I still find it very fun and interesting to have two different ways of interacting with two different cultures in general. And I\u2019m really glad that I am bilingual and I get to experience such a difference.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p style=\"font-size:16px\"><strong>How is the humor between the two different groups? Because we feel that can also vary with language and culture.\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n<p style=\"font-size:16px\"><strong>IRyS: <\/strong>Yeah, that definitely does vary.\u00a0It\u2019s really hard to explain exactly how it\u2019s different.<\/p>\n<p style=\"font-size:16px\">I don\u2019t know if it\u2019s what you would call <em>American humor<\/em>, but American humor is, I think \u2014 along with language \u2014 straightforward. It\u2019s simple.<\/p>\n<p style=\"font-size:16px\">Whereas <em>Japanese humor<\/em> \u2014 for example, Japanese TV shows (variety TV shows) \u2014 they\u2019re very crass in a fun way. Because everything\u2019s so polite, when it comes to humor, all of a sudden there\u2019s a huge difference from the [usual] politeness that makes it funny.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p style=\"font-size:16px\">That\u2019s what makes it funny, it\u2019s just so different from the usual Japanese <em>Keigo<\/em> \u2014 classic polite Japanese where they go all out. It\u2019s really hard to explain the difference in English, but I would say that it\u2019s also more complicated.<\/p>\n<p style=\"font-size:16px\">I think dark humor is also very common in Japanese comedy and whatnot. So yeah, more crass. It\u2019s not rude, but it\u2019s for humor.<\/p>\n<p style=\"font-size:16px\">Though at the same time, I haven\u2019t really been subjected to a lot of American humor recently since I\u2019ve been so indulged in Japanese culture for the past- I don\u2019t know how many years, but for quite a while.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p style=\"font-size:16px\">So yeah, I might be a little biased or my opinion might be a little outdated.\u00a0<\/p>\n<figure class=\"wp-block-embed is-type-rich is-provider-twitter wp-block-embed-twitter\"\/>\n<p style=\"font-size:16px\"><strong>Official MMD models were made available for the members of hololive -Promise-, including yourself! Can you share your thoughts on videos as fan made content?<\/strong><\/p>\n<p style=\"font-size:16px\"><strong>IRyS: <\/strong>I mean honestly I think most of us <em>really <\/em>encourage fan content.<\/p>\n<p style=\"font-size:16px\">I really pushed for the Promise MMDs because I wanted an IRyS MMD model for a long time. So I was happy to finally release it to the public.\u00a0I saw other generations in hololive releasing MMD models and I was like, \u201cwait\u2026 <em>I want to release one<\/em>.\u201d<\/p>\n<p style=\"font-size:16px\">I\u2019m happy that my fans and listeners are finally able to make content with my official 3D MMD model, which was something that they couldn\u2019t do until now because- yeah, it didn\u2019t exist.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p style=\"font-size:16px\">A lot of other hololive members had fan-made MMD models of their default model \u2014 their official default outfit.\u00a0Because I had a redesign, and because the design itself is very intricate and complicated, I have fan-made MMD models of my alternate outfits, but not for my official default model.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>So I really wanted to release [an official MMD model] because I wanted to have that as an option for fan made video creation.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p style=\"font-size:16px\"><strong>You also participated in the Dodgers collab. Now, from what we understand, you were rather excited to be part of that?\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n<p style=\"font-size:16px\"><strong>IRyS: <\/strong>I was very excited for the Dodgers collab.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p style=\"font-size:16px\">I remember seeing it happen last year and I was like, \u201coh man, I really wish I could be part of it.\u201d\u00a0<\/p>\n<p style=\"font-size:16px\">So it was very much a big honor to be able to perform at the Dodgers stadium and along with two amazing EN members \u2014 <strong>Ina<\/strong> and <strong><em>Biboo<\/em><\/strong>. It was a lot of fun.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p style=\"font-size:16px\">And just <em>the thought<\/em> that \u2014 perhaps, maybe \u2014 <strong>Ohtani Shohei<\/strong> might have witnessed me is an amazing honor. And it was his birthday! The game itself was obviously open to hololive fans, but not <em>just<\/em> hololive fans.<\/p>\n<p style=\"font-size:16px\">I feel like a big portion of the people watching were people who have no idea who we are or what VTubing even is.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p style=\"font-size:16px\">So it is definitely more of an <em>away<\/em> experience. It felt like an <em>away match <\/em>for me. We did bring up that: \u201cYou might think that we\u2019re not real people, but we are actually real people inside. We\u2019re cute anime girls that are real.\u201d<\/p>\n<p style=\"font-size:16px\">\u201cWe actually exist, you know, we\u2019re here.\u201d<\/p>\n<p style=\"font-size:16px\">So to explain that to a normal audience is obviously a little nerve wracking. But it\u2019s a really nice opportunity to broaden the culture of VTubing \u2014 to introduce this culture to people who have never even<em> known<\/em> about it.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p style=\"font-size:16px\">And obviously the usual hololive fans were also there, so they cheered us on \u2014 even louder than usual to represent hololive fans. I felt like the unity amongst fans was also strengthened through that. And I thought that it was a great experience.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p style=\"font-size:16px\"><strong>You\u2019ve also been part of \u201chololive STAGE World Tour \u201925 -Synchronize!-\u201d What is it like to represent hololive across the world in a <a href=\"https:\/\/buradabiliyorum.com\/en\/category\/watch-movies-tv-seriess\/\" data-internallinksmanager029f6b8e52c=\"8\" title=\"Watch Movies &amp; TV Series\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">series<\/a> of concerts?<\/strong><\/p>\n<p style=\"font-size:16px\"><strong>IRyS: <\/strong>It\u2019s such an honor. I was very happy to be offered to be a part of the World Tour this year. It\u2019s such an honor to represent hololive to the world, and to be able to sing and perform in all sorts of places \u2014 and in such a short time span too!<\/p>\n<p style=\"font-size:16px\">As VTubers, we don\u2019t get that many opportunities to perform in front of a live audience \u2014 it\u2019s not an easy thing to do <a href=\"https:\/\/buradabiliyorum.com\/en\/category\/technology\/\" data-internallinksmanager029f6b8e52c=\"4\" title=\"Technology\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">technology<\/a>-wise.
