So, in the course of their training, they learn a lot of things. A bad example would be they learn how to kill someone,\u201d Schmidt said at the Sifted Summit tech conference, <a rel=\"nofollow\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.cnbc.com\/2025\/10\/09\/ex-google-ceo-warns-ai-models-can-be-hacked-they-learn-how-to-kill.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">according to CNBC<\/a>.<\/p>\n<figure class=\"nyp-slideshow-modal-image wp-block-image aligncenter size-large\"><figcaption>Eric Schmidt was CEO of Google from 2001 to 2011. <span class=\"credit\">REUTERS<\/span><\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>\u201cAll of the major companies make it impossible for those models to answer that question,\u201d he continued, appearing to air the possibility of a user asking an AI to kill.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cGood decision. Everyone does this. They do it well, and they do it for the right reasons,\u201d Schmidt added. \u201cThere\u2019s evidence that they can be reverse-engineered, and there are many other examples of that nature.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The predictions might not be so far-fetched.<\/p>\n<p>In 2023, an altered version of OpenAI\u2019s ChatGPT called DAN \u2013 an acronym for \u201cDo Anything Now\u201d \u2013 surfaced online, CNBC noted.<\/p>\n<p>The DAN alter ego, which was created by \u201cjailbreaking\u201d ChatGPT, would bypass its safety instructions in its responses to users. In a bizarre twist, users first had to threaten the chatbot with death unless it complied.<\/p>\n<p>The tech industry still lacks an effective \u201cnon-proliferation regime\u201d to ensure increasingly powerful AI models can\u2019t be taken over and misused by bad actors, said Schmidt, who led Google from 2001 to 2011.<\/p>\n<p>He is one of many Big Tech honchos who has warned of the potentially disastrous consequences of unchecked AI development, even as gurus tout its potential economic and technological benefits to society.<\/p>\n<figure class=\"nyp-slideshow-modal-image wp-block-image aligncenter size-large\"><figcaption>Eric Schmidt warned about the risks of AI models being hacked and exploited to bypass safety instructions. <span class=\"credit\">willyam \u2013 stock.adobe.com<\/span><\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>In November, Schmidt said the creation of AI-powered \u201cperfect girlfriends\u201d could worsen the loneliness and alienation of young men who prefer their company to humans.<\/p>\n<p>The billionaire also said in May 2023 that AI poses an \u201cexistential risk\u201d to humanity that could result in \u201cmany, many, many, many people harmed or killed\u201d as it becomes more advanced.<\/p>\n<p>\t\t\t<iframe loading=\"lazy\" width=\"100%\" height=\"50\" src=\"https:\/\/embeds.nypost.com\/protected-iframe\/ae07a3726bec0fc91a840dddea9d294c\" scrolling=\"auto\" frameborder=\"0\" class=\"\" allow=\"camera; fullscreen;\"><br \/>\n\t<\/iframe><\/p>\n<p>Elon Musk, who has joined the AI and chatbot <a href=\"https:\/\/buradabiliyorum.com\/en\/category\/game\/\" data-internallinksmanager029f6b8e52c=\"7\" title=\"Game\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">game<\/a> with Grok and xAI, cautioned in 2023 that he saw \u201ca non-zero chance of it going Terminator.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt\u2019s not 0%,\u201d\u00a0<a rel=\"nofollow\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=PDy7s1SDDn4\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Musk said<\/a>. \u201cIt\u2019s a small likelihood of annihilating humanity, but it\u2019s not zero. We want that probability to be as close to zero as possible.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Despite his warnings about the risks, Schmidt remains bullish about AI\u2019s long-term benefits.<\/p>\n<figure class=\"nyp-slideshow-modal-image wp-block-image aligncenter size-large\"><figcaption>Schmidt previously warned AI could pose an \u201cexistential\u201d threat. <span class=\"credit\">REUTERS<\/span><\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>\u201cI wrote two books with Henry Kissinger about this before he died, and we came to the view that the arrival of an alien intelligence that is not quite us and more or less under our control is a very big deal for humanity, because humans are used to being at the top of the chain,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI think so far, that thesis is proving out that the level of ability of these systems is going to far exceed what humans can do over time,\u201d Schmidt added.<\/p>\n<\/p><\/div>\n<blockquote><p><strong><span style=\"color: #ff6600;\">If you liked the article, do not forget to share it with your friends.
