The model relies on longer, more specific, and more commercial-style queries than Google\u2019s average searcher. That means SEOs could have more influence over ChatGPT\u2019s answers, especially for local, product, and buying-intent searches where the model leans most heavily on external data.<\/p>\n<p><strong>By the numbers.<\/strong> Some key findings from the report:<\/p>\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><strong>Search frequency:<\/strong> 31% of prompts triggered at least one search.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Fan-out depth:<\/strong> ChatGPT averaged 2.17 searches per prompt, maxing out at four.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Query length:<\/strong> 5.48 words on average \u2013 77% of all the queries were 5 words or longer.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Industries:<\/strong> ChatGPT searched most for local intent (59%); least for credit cards (18%) and fashion (19%).<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>Top patterns. <\/strong>ChatGPT favored review-based, fresh, and comparative content. These were some of the most common search terms:<\/p>\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><strong>Reviews<\/strong> (702 instances)<\/li>\n<li><strong>2025<\/strong><\/li>\n<li><strong>Features<\/strong><\/li>\n<li><strong>Comparison<\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>What they\u2019re saying.<\/strong> Chris Long, co-founder of Nectiv, wrote:<\/p>\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>\u201cWhat\u2019s important to understand is that when ChatGPT uses search, SEOs have much more control over the information that\u2019s presented. This is ChatGPT is basically a wr<a href=\"https:\/\/buradabiliyorum.com\/en\/category\/download-scripts-themes-apps\/\" data-internallinksmanager029f6b8e52c=\"9\" title=\"Download Scripts &amp; Themes &amp; Apps\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">app<\/a>er for search engines. So if we can figure out how often and what the LLM is searching, we\u2019re going to have an easier time optimizing for it.\u201d<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>About the data. <\/strong>8,500+ ChatGPT prompts were analyzed across nine industries using Nectiv\u2019s AI Tracker to identify when the model performed external searches.
