\n A Texas high school is under fire for a class assignment that included Kenosha shooting suspect Kyle Rittenhouse among a list of \u201cheroes.\u201d<\/p>\n

The controversial paper assigned Monday by W. T. White High School teacher Paul Ford asked students to write a one-page essay on a \u201chero for the modern age,\u201d the Dallas Observer reported<\/a>.<\/p>\n

Rittenhouse, who was charged last month with fatally shooting two people at a Black Lives Matter protest, was listed as one of the heroes to choose \u2014 alongside Malcolm X, Mahatma Gandhi, C\u00e9sar Ch\u00e1vez, George Floyd and one of Rittenhouse\u2019s alleged victims, Joseph Rosenbaum.<\/p>\n

\u201cIt didn\u2019t sit right with him that a white supremacist murderer was on the same page as people he recognized to be important historical figures,\u201d said Kristen Hernandez, whose brother was one of the seniors who received the assignment.<\/p>\n

\u201cI don\u2019t think that human rights are up for debate, I don\u2019t think the sanctity of Black lives is up for debate, and that\u2019s what this assignment is basically saying,\u201d she added.<\/p>\n

The district later issued an apology in an emailed statement, saying the prompt had not been app<\/a>roved by the administration.<\/p>\n

District spokeswoman Robyn Harris said an investigation would be launched and then \u201cappropriate steps\u201d would be taken.<\/p>\n
