Photo by George Ian Hewitt<br \/>\n    <\/span><\/p>\n<p>  <span class=\"credit\"><br \/>\n      \u00a0<\/p>\n<p>  <\/span><\/p>\n<p><\/span><\/p><\/div>\n<\/p><\/div>\n<\/div>\n<style>\n<\/style>\n<div id=\"content_block-275513\" class=\"content_block paragraph text triple_gutter_right triple_gutter_left center_align\">\n<div class=\"content_inner_wrapper\">\n<div class=\"paragraph_wrapper center_align\">\n<p>\n            Kansas City-based producer-singer-songwriter 1010benja\u2019s new three-track EP follows his 2024 debut album <i>Ten Total<\/i>, a collision of neo-soul, sugary pop, gospel, drill, and trap that I was wary of at first but warmed up to almost im<a href=\"https:\/\/buradabiliyorum.com\/en\/category\/social-mediaa\/\" data-internallinksmanager029f6b8e52c=\"1\" title=\"Social Media\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">media<\/a>tely. <i>3X10<\/i> is only three tracks long, but it satisfies nonetheless.\n          <\/p>\n<div class=\"\" style=\"padding-bottom: 20px; margin-top: 20px; text-align: left;\">\n<\/div>\n<p>\n            Opener \u201cChosen Omen\u201d is a Frank Ocean-indebted slow jam that sees benja pairing juicy synths with blissful acoustic guitar arpeggios to underscore his lovely tenor. The track\u2019s lyrics are similarly Oceanic, pairing biblical imagery with contemporary, earthly concerns to tell the story of a down-on-their-luck loved one looking for a sign that things will get better.\n          <\/p>\n<p>\n            \u201cLightrope\u201d is chugging alt-rock summoned from the turn of the century, its pacing and twangy guitar arpeggios (a <a href=\"https:\/\/buradabiliyorum.com\/en\/category\/download-scripts-themes-apps\/\" data-internallinksmanager029f6b8e52c=\"9\" title=\"Download Scripts &amp; Themes &amp; Apps\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">theme<\/a>) evoking goofy radio fare like Crazy Town\u2019s \u201cButterfly.\u201d As on <i>Ten Total<\/i>, though, benja transcends his corny reference points, savvily employing \u201cminor genres\u201d like a masterful literary novelist going noir.\n          <\/p>\n<div class=\"\" style=\"padding-bottom: 20px; margin-top: 20px; text-align: left;\">\n<\/div>\n<p>\n            <i>3X10<\/i> ends with \u201cYAM,\u201d an inspired interpolation of the System of a Down ballad \u201cLonely Day.\u201d \u201cYAM\u201d follows the scansion of \u201cLonely Day\u201d and sticks loosely to its melody, but its lyrics diverge from its source material almost immediately. \u201cSuch an openness \/ Such an open-hearted openness \/ Keeping me high,\u201d benja sings, showing off his vocal range. \u201cSuch a loveliness \/ A softhearted bashfulness \/ [Your big bells are clinging high (?)]\u201d (not sure about that last one).\n          <\/p>\n<\/p><\/div>\n<\/p><\/div>\n<\/div>\n<style>\n<\/style>\n<div id=\"content_block-275517\" class=\"content_block paragraph video triple_gutter_right triple_gutter_left center_align\">\n<div class=\"content_inner_wrapper\">\n<div class=\"media_wrapper\">\n<div class=\"video_wrapper\">\n<div class=\"fluid-width-video-wrapper\" style=\"padding-top: 56.25%;\">\n<p>    <iframe loading=\"lazy\" title=\"1010benja - Lightrope (Official Video)\" width=\"640\" height=\"360\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/x7u7Fwqp2OM?feature=oembed\" frameborder=\"0\" allow=\"accelerometer; autoplay; clipboard-write; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture; web-share\" referrerpolicy=\"strict-origin-when-cross-origin\" allowfullscreen><\/iframe><\/p><\/div>\n<\/div>\n<p><script>\n \/\/trackYouTubeVideo('275517');\n<\/script><\/p><\/div>\n<\/p><\/div>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"content_block paragraph triple_gutter_right triple_gutter_left\">\n<div class=\"content_inner_wrapper\">\n<div class=\"\" style=\"padding-bottom: 20px; margin-top: 20px; text-align: left;\">\n<\/div><\/div>\n<\/p><\/div>\n<style>\n<\/style>\n<div id=\"content_block-275514\" class=\"content_block paragraph text triple_gutter_right triple_gutter_left center_align\">\n<div class=\"content_inner_wrapper\">\n<div class=\"paragraph_wrapper center_align\">\n<p>\n             \u201cYAM stands for \u2018YOUR ASS, MINE\u2019 and wouldn&#8217;t you know it? Life&#8217;s got you, the gods and planets ensnare the weak and vulnerable,\u201d benja said in a press release. \u201cYou, you are a snare, your love is a prison. The truth hurts, its violence is rich and sweet. When an American leaves their familiar land to <a href=\"https:\/\/buradabiliyorum.com\/en\/category\/trip-and-travel\/\" data-internallinksmanager029f6b8e52c=\"10\" title=\"Trip &amp; Travel\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">travel<\/a> to tropical places, one bite of a good YAM is worth 1000 Quarter Pounders.&#8221;\n          <\/p>\n<p>\n            1010benja\u2019s music is couched in the same sort of wry, stream-of-consciousness humor, and it serves him well: His stylistic touchstones on <i>Ten Total<\/i> and here (Ocean and SOAD exempted) make me cringe a little, but he\u2019s too clever, talented, and all-around likeable to hate.
