A recent Fox News<\/a> poll found his support among non-college whites down 11 percentage points from the last election, and Reuters has him off by 20 points, with his edge over Joe Biden among these voters narrowing from 21 in May to just 12 in August. Trump has been pushing the message that \u201cBiden spent his entire career outsourcing the dreams of American workers, offshoring their jobs, opening their borders\u201d and sending their kids \u201cto fight in endless foreign wars.\u201d And that\u2019s a \u201csale\u201d Team Trump \u201cis going to have to make\u201d to repeat his 2016 showing among his blue-collar white base.<\/p>\n

Libertarian: Perverse City Priorities<\/strong><\/p>\n

For many businesses \u201cheavily damaged or destroyed\u201d in this summer\u2019s riots, Walter Olson blogs at Cato.org<\/a>, \u201cthe Minneapolis city government adds a special insult: It won\u2019t let shop owners install exterior shutters to protect against break-ins, a common practice in other cities.\u201d Officials say such shutters make an area look \u201cunsafe\u201d and \u201ctroublesome\u201d \u2014 just as Philadelphia in 2017 banned store plastic barriers because they cause \u201cindignity.\u201d \u201cNotice,\u201d Olson fumes, \u201cthe objection is not to a neighborhood\u2019s being physically dangerous, as to the display of visible cues that might alert people to that fact. Make the visible cues go away!\u201d<\/p>\n

COVID journal: Give Trump Major Vaccine Credit<\/strong><\/p>\n

When Dr. Anthony Fauci first predicted a coronavirus vaccine in 12 to 18 months, recalls Politico\u2019s Joanne Kenen<\/a>, she rolled her eyes. Yet today, though we still don\u2019t have a vaccine, it\u2019s \u201cplausible\u201d we\u2019ll get one \u201cwithin a few months\u201d \u2014 so a shot may wind up being \u201capp<\/a>roved on the early side\u201d of Fauci\u2019s timeframe. Kenen credits \u201camazing science<\/a> over the last eight or nine months\u201d but also the White House\u2019s Operation Warp Speed. \u201cThe Trump administration has helped push the vaccine science and given the industry the cash to jump-start productions.\u201d It\u2019s at least one aspect of the White House\u2019s COVID response that her science and public-health sources \u201cgive, at a minimum, begrudging respect.\u201d<\/p>\n

Media<\/a> watch: Nothing To See Here, Folks<\/strong><\/p>\n

\u201cThe Democrat-media complex has a new mission: to distract our attention from President Trump\u2019s incredible \u2014 and I mean incredible \u2014 progress on both economic and foreign policy,\u201d gushes Andrew Puzder for The Federalist<\/a>. Instead of focusing on last month\u2019s historic job growth or the important steps toward peace in the Middle East, The Atlantic first tried \u201ccasting doubt on the president\u2019s patriotism,\u201d The New York Times launched a \u201csmear campaign\u201d claiming he\u2019s been inconsistent on China and Bob Woodward accused him of hiding info on the virus. These \u201chit pieces\u201d were \u201cnever intended to be rational\u201d but to \u201cdraw attention\u201d from Trump\u2019s successes. As November nears, expect more of them. And if a suspicious \u201ceyebrow-raising\u201d narrative seems to dominate the news, it\u2019s \u201clikely another example of \u2018fake news\u2019 \u2014 which really isn\u2019t news at all.\u201d<\/p>\n

Foreign desk: Accords Are a \u2018Nightmare\u2019 for Iran<\/strong><\/p>\n

The Abraham Accords are \u201ca crack in century-long Arab enmity to a Jewish, democratic and liberal state at the heart of the\u201d Middle East, notes Benny Avni at The New York Sun<\/a>. They\u2019re also \u201ca new weapon in weakening the Mideast\u2019s most malign power.\u201d Indeed, they\u2019re a \u201cstrategic nightmare\u201d for Iran: \u201cUntil now, Israel relied on one Iranian neighbor, Azerbaijan,\u201d to \u201crun to after conducting heroic intelligence feats like the theft\u201d of documents proving Iran\u2019s nuclear ambitions. \u201cNow, in the UAE and Bahrain, it has allies to the west and south of Iran\u2019s borders.\u201d President Trump brokered those deals, while his rival, Joe Biden, notes Avni, has indicated that he\u2019d \u201creturn America to a course of appeasement\u201d \u2014 and \u201cwith it all the carrots offered to Iran before Mr. Trump tried the stick.\u201d<\/p>\n
