title=\"Download Scripts &amp; Themes &amp; Apps\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">app<\/a>earances and Instagram posts over the years have likely been the result of\u00a0the 44-year-old rapper\u2019s bipolarism, according to Kim Kardashian, who, along with her family, has been the subject of his ultrapersonal rants and claims.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cAs many of you know, Kanye has [bipolar] disorder,\u201d Kardashian once\u00a0explained about her soon-to-be ex-husband\u00a0to fans and begged for \u201ccompassion and empathy .\u2009.\u2009. so that we can get through this.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>West\u2019s erratic behavior is part and parcel of the mental health disorder, which,\u00a0according to the American Psychiatric Association, can bring on \u201cextreme and intense emotional states\u201d and can include \u201crisky behavior\u201d and irritability.<\/p>\n<p>How did the 21-time Grammy winner get here? Here\u2019s a look into the disorder and its effect on West, who now goes by Ye, over the years.<\/p>\n<h2><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"What_is_bipolar_disorder\"><\/span><strong>What is bipolar disorder?\u00a0<\/strong><span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h2>\n<p>Bipolar disorder \u2014 type I, II or more mild cyclothymia \u2014 is defined by \u201cdramatic shifts in a person\u2019s mood, energy and ability to think clearly,\u201d\u00a0according to the National Alliance on Mental Illness. The 4.4% of American adults with bipolar disorder experience alternating periods of mania and depression that can each last months.<\/p>\n<p>Manic moods, characterized by a euphoric but outsize sense of self-confidence, can lead to erratic behavior \u2014 anything from \u201cjumping from one idea to another\u201d or \u201cirritability\u201d to spending sprees or \u201csexual liaisons,\u201d Dr. Lloyd Sederer, chief medical officer at the New York State Office of Mental Health,\u00a0told The Post.<\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">\u201cPeriods of high stress, such as the death of a loved one or other traumatic event,\u201d are a risk factor,\u00a0<span class=\"s2\">according to the Mayo Clinic<\/span>. Doctors emphasize that many stressors and factors, known and unknown, can lead to a manic episode.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">According to a source close to the rapper,<\/span><span class=\"s2\">\u00a0West is prone to working around the clock \u2014 and it could be working against him.\u00a0\u00a0<\/span><span class=\"s1\">\u201cDoing many activities at once [and] scheduling more events in a day than can be accomplished\u201d is a sign of manic behavior, according to the American Psychiatric Association.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">\u201cFalse beliefs or false perceptions\u201d can also be a sign of bipolarism,\u00a0according to Harvard Medical School, as well as an \u201cexaggerated, puffed-up self-esteem,\u201d one mirrored by the artist\u2019s tracks \u201cI Am a God\u201d from the 2013 \u201cYeezus\u201d album, and grandiose statements such as, \u201cI\u2019m the greatest human artist of all time.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p>Whatever form the mania takes, one thing remains true: Every episode raises the patient\u2019s odds of having another. \u201cIt\u2019s the kindling theory,\u201d Sederer explained. \u201cThere\u2019s been more wood added to the fire, so it\u2019s easier for the fire to be ignited.\u201d<\/p>\n<h2><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"A_timeline_of_Wests_mental_health_history\"><\/span>A timeline of West\u2019s mental health history<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h2>\n<figure style=\"width: 1536px\" class=\"wp-caption alignnone\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-medium\" src=\"https:\/\/nypost.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2020\/07\/kanye-swift-2009-copy.jpg?resize=1536,1023&amp;quality=75&amp;strip=all\" width=\"1536\" height=\"1023\" \/><figcaption class=\"wp-caption-text\">2009\u2019s VMAs &#8211; FilmMagic<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<h3><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"2009_VMAs_Interruption\"><\/span>2009 VMAs Interruption<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h3>\n<p>West has\u00a0exhibited erratic behavior\u00a0long before he\u00a0went public with his diagnosis, such as his\u00a0interruption of Taylor Swift\u00a0at the 2009 VMAs. \u201cI\u2019mma let you finish,\u201d West famously said to Swift after she scored the award for Best Video by a Female Artist. \u201cBut Beyonc\u00e9 had one of the best videos of all time!\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The pop giant\u2019s rivalry continued for over a decade. On Nick Cannon\u2019s podcast in 2020, West claimed that\u00a0God told him to storm the stage. Delusions of grandeur, like being a prophet or a God, can indicate a manic episode, like in the case of Zack McDermott, who\u00a0wrote about his experience with bipolar disorder\u00a0in his memoir.<\/p>\n<h3><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"2016_Tour_Cancellation\"><\/span>2016 Tour Cancellation<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h3>\n<p>Kanye also had to cancel the remainder of his \u201cSaint Pablo Tour\u201d dates in November 2016 after a shortened concert left audiences enraged. An \u201cexhausted\u201d\u00a0West was later hospitalized.<\/p>\n<h3><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"2018_Album\"><\/span>2018 Album<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h3>\n<p>In 2018, the album art for West\u2019s eighth record, \u201cYe,\u201d included the phrase, \u201cI hate being \/ Bi-Polar \/ it\u2019s awesome\u201d over an iPhone picture of the Wyoming mountain range. West also referred to the disorder as \u201cmy superpower\u201d on the album.<\/p>\n<h3><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"2019_Press_Tour\"><\/span>2019 Press Tour<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h3>\n<p>The follow year, West became more vocal about being bipolar during interviews.<\/p>\n<p>\u201c\u2018Crazy\u2019 is a word that\u2019s not gonna be used loosely in the future,\u201d West\u00a0told Forbes in 2019. \u201cUnderstand that this is actually a condition that people can end up in, be born into, driven into and go in and out. And there\u2019s a lot of people that have been called that \u2018C\u2019 word that have ended up on this cover,\u201d he said, referring to the magazine.<\/p>\n<p>In an\u00a0interview with David Letterman, West detailed his experiences with the disorder, saying that during an episode, everything can feel like \u201ca conspiracy.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cYou feel the government is putting chips in your head,\u201d he told Letterman, adding that he only got his diagnosis two years prior to their 2019 interview. \u201cYou feel you\u2019re being recorded. You feel all these things.\u201d<\/p>\n<h3><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"2020_Presidential_Campaign\"><\/span>2020 Presidential Campaign<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h3>\n<p>Signs of familial trouble came for the West\u2019s following Kanye\u2019s announcement on July 4 that he\u2019d be\u00a0running for president, and at a presidential campaign rally in North Charleston, South Carolina.<\/p>\n<p>Sporting a bulletproof vest and with \u201c2020\u201d shaved into his hair, the rapper gave an emotional and, at times, hysterical speech later in July. \u201cI almost killed my daughter,\u201d\u00a0yelled West, as security guards looked on\u00a0with concern, describing how he and Kardashian debated an abortion.<\/p>\n<p>He also brought up eyebrow-raising assertions, including that slavery was \u201ca choice\u201d and that \u201cHarriet Tubman never actually freed the slaves\u201d at his campaign rally.<\/p>\n<p>West, who signed a 10-year contract with Gap for a new line, also\u00a0threatened to pull out of the deal\u00a0and sent the stock plunging.<\/p>\n<p>In the months closer to the election, West\u00a0spent a ton of his own money\u00a0on the campaign \u2014 excessive spending can be a telltale sign of bipolar\u00a0according to the International Bipolar Foundation\u00a0\u2014 and has\u00a0sued Wisconsin\u00a0to get on the ballot after\u00a0missing key filing deadlines in a few states.<\/p>\n<h3><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"2020_Family_Troubles\"><\/span>2020 Family Troubles<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h3>\n<p>In a few brief but bizarre <a href=\"https:\/\/buradabiliyorum.com\/en\/category\/social-mediaa\/\" data-internallinksmanager029f6b8e52c=\"1\" title=\"Social Media\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Twitter<\/a> rants in July \u2014 most of which have been deleted \u2014 West claimed his family sent two doctors to his ranch in Cody, Wyoming, to \u201c51\/50\u201d him, referring to an involuntary psychiatric hospitalization \u201cof up to 72 hours for assessment, evaluation and crisis intervention,\u201d\u00a0according to California law.<\/p>\n<p>The \u201cGraduation\u201d hit-maker added that he\u2019s been \u201ctrying to get a divorce\u201d since \u201cKim met Meek at the Waldorf for \u2018prison reform,\u2019\u201d\u00a0referring to a 2018 summit\u00a0on criminal justice reform the two attended. He also accused the Kardashian-Jenner clan of \u201cwhite supremacy\u201d and referred to his mother-in-law as \u201cKris Jong-Un.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Kardashian\u00a0took to Instagram\u00a0that week to explain West\u2019s behavior and ask their fans and foes for understanding.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cAs many of you know, Kanye has [bipolar] disorder,\u201d she wrote of her then-husband\u2019s meltdown. \u201cThose who are close with Kanye know his heart and understand his words [sometimes] do not align with his intentions.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The\u00a0billionaire\u00a0and mom of four asked for \u201ccompassion and empathy .\u2009.\u2009. so that we can get through this\u201d in her statement.<\/p>\n<p>Some have speculated that those episodes could have been brought on by the birthday of his late mother, Donda, who would have been 71 on July 12. She died in 2007 while undergoing plastic surgery.<\/p>\n<p>Kardashian alluded in her statement to West\u2019s \u201cpainful loss of his mother.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The stresses of the coronavirus pandemic \u2014 which reportedly had the couple \u201cat each other\u2019s throats,\u201d\u00a0according to Page Six\u00a0\u2014 in early May may also have been a factor, some speculate.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-medium\" src=\"https:\/\/nypost.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2020\/07\/kanye-kim-paris-1-copy.jpg?resize=1536,1024&amp;quality=75&amp;strip=all\" width=\"1536\" height=\"1024\" \/><\/p>\n<h3><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"2020_Twitter_Meltdowns\"><\/span>2020 Twitter Meltdowns<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h3>\n<p>Kanye took center stage on Twitter again around the time that his then-wife and in-laws announced that \u201cKeeping Up With the Kardashians\u201d\u00a0would end after 20 seasons\u00a0in September. Plans for a \u201cChristian TikTok,\u201d pics of his hand injured from \u201ctoo much texting\u201d and reports that Kanye campaign staffers were told to\u00a0refrain from pre-marital sex\u00a0all took a backseat to Kanye\u2019s\u00a0public dispute with Sony and Universal\u00a0\u2014 all of which happened in one week.<\/p>\n<p>The rapper claims that the recording companies \u2014 Universal-owned Roc-A-Fella, Def Jam and West\u2019s own GOOD Music labels \u2014 have him locked into an unfair contract where they own the master recordings of his tracks. He tweeted pictures of signed legal documents \u2014 he claimed they were 10 of his contracts \u2014 and demanded, \u201cI need every lawyer in the world to look at these.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>West demanded to speak with fellow artists Drake, Jay-Z, J. Cole and businessmen including Arnaud de Puyfontaine, the CEO of the parent company to Universal Music Group, in his frantic feed.<\/p>\n<p>The online tear came to a head when Kanye tweeted out a video that appears to show him\u00a0urinating on his own Grammy award, which he had placed in a toilet. He wrote, \u201cTrust me \u2026 I WONT STOP.\u201d But Twitter stopped him:\u00a0his account was locked\u00a0until he removed a tweet with a screencap of Randall Lane\u2019s cellphone number, encouraging his fans to reach out to the Forbes editor.<\/p>\n<h3><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"2021_Divorce\"><\/span>2021 Divorce<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h3>\n<p>Amid rumors of a breakup,\u00a0Page Six reported the couple was splitting. The pair got married in 2014 and share four children together: North, Saint, Chicago and Psalm. Initial reports indicated that the breakup was amicable and\u00a0Kardashian officially filed\u00a0for divorce in February. By March, Page Six reported the\u00a0couple were no longer speaking. But that July and August, Kardashian supported West at his \u201cDonda\u201d listening events \u2014 even wearing a wedding dress to one. West\u00a0was linked to model Irina Shayk\u00a0and then\u00a0model Vinetria.<\/p>\n<p>Nonetheless, West continued to make public declarations of his love for Kardashian \u2014 changing a line to his song \u201cRunaway\u201d to\u00a0\u201cI need you to run right back, baby, more specifically, Kimberly.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Also, at annual LA charity event for the homeless, the rapper said: \u201cIf the enemy can separate Kimye, there\u2019s going to be millions of families that feel like that separation is okay. But when God brings Kimye together, there\u2019s going to be millions of families that are going to be influenced to see that they can overcome the work of the separation, of trauma the devil has used to capitalize to keep people in misery while people step over homeless people to go to the Gucci store.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>In\u00a0October,\u00a0Kardashian was seen out with Pete Davidson. She filed documents requesting to be \u201clegally single\u201d in December.<\/p>\n<h3><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"2022_Social_Media_Rants\"><\/span>2022 Social Media Rants<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h3>\n<p>The\u00a0new year brought\u00a0a new relationship for West, who began seeing \u201cUncut Gems\u201d actress Julia Fox. In one post, he\u00a0cut Kid Cudi from his upcoming album, \u201cDonda 2,\u201d because of his Cudi\u2019s friendship with Davidson. He then photoshopped a \u201cCaptain America: Civil War\u201d image where he, Drake, Julia Fox, Travis Scott and Future squared off with Davidson, Kardashian, Cudi, Billie Eilish and old foe, Taylor Swift.<\/p>\n<p>The\u00a0rapper accused the Skims founder\u00a0of kidnapping their daughter, Chicago. \u201cWhat do you mean by main provider ? America saw you try to kid nap [sic] my daughter on her birthday by not providing the address,\u201d he wrote on Instagram. He also claimed Kardashian did not invite him to their Chicago\u2019s birthday party.<\/p>\n<p>West was bashing Davidson so much that\u00a0allegedly Kardashian sent the rapper text messages asking him to stop out of fear for the \u201cSaturday Night Live\u201d comic\u2019s safety.
