Rebecca Gayheart<\/strong> doesn\u2019t care if she and Eric Dane<\/strong> have been separated for nearly a decade \u2014 he\u2019s still got a place in her heart.<\/p>\n

As we\u2019re sure you know, Grey\u2019s Anatomy<\/em>\u2018s beloved \u201cMcSteamy\u201d was diagnosed with ALS back in April. Since then, he\u2019s shown his journey and the progression of the disease. And now, his ex is opening up about how she and their children have been adjusting to their new normal.<\/p>\n

In the new episode of the Broad Ideas<\/em> podcast, Rebecca said she\u2019s teaching their daughters \u2014 Billie<\/strong>, 15, and Georgia<\/strong>, 13 \u2014 that \u201cwe show up for people no matter what\u201d:<\/p>\n

\n

\u201cHe is our family. He is your father. We show up, and we try to do it with some dignity and some grace and just get through it.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n

Admittedly, this whole situation IS \u201csuper complicated\u201d, she explained:<\/p>\n

\u201cWe\u2019ve been separated for eight years. The kids live with me 100 percent of the time. There\u2019s been lots of just stuff, other stuff. I try to stay optimistic, though, about it all. I\u2019m trying to learn from it and [be a] role model for them [for] how to go through something like this, which is really hard.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n

We can only imagine\u2026 The 54-year-old then expressed how she\u2019s not sure if she\u2019s doing anything right \u2014 but she\u2019s trying:<\/p>\n

\u201cI don\u2019t know if I\u2019m doing it well or if I\u2019m doing it in the wrong way or the right way. I\u2019m just showing up. I\u2019m showing up, and I\u2019m trying to be there for them. I guess time will tell.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n

Sometimes, being there is the best thing anyone can do. Rebecca is showing so much strength and dignity.<\/p>\n

She continued, speaking on how their daughters are doing:<\/p>\n

\u201cThey\u2019re good girls who are just going through a lot \u2026 Listen, I am definitely experiencing growth as a person, as a human being. It\u2019s all very humbling. I think one piece of this that I hope I\u2019m passing to my kids is the idea that you can show up for someone and be there for them, but you also have to show up for yourself.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n
