In the first verse, before the song\u2019s horntastic beat goes batshit crazy, the 22-year-old French-Congolese laments the drawbacks of her bodacious physique. \u201cC\u2019est \u00e0 cause d\u2019mon fiak, il \u00e9loigne trop mes g\u2019noux\/ Et mes gros seins me font souvent mal au cou,\u201d or, in English, \u201cMy ass, it pulls my knees too far apart\/ And my big titties often hurt my neck.&#8221;\n          <\/p>\n<div class=\"\" style=\"padding-bottom: 20px; margin-top: 20px; text-align: left;\">\n<\/div>\n<p>\n            \u201cEverybody was like, <i>Oh, your ass is not that big,<\/i>\u2019\u201d Theodora says of some of the initial reactions she received from the song. \u201cBut that was only the boys. The girls was like, <i>\u2018Oh, I think I know what she means.<\/i> Everything was about fun and making fun of my insecurities. Which are the insecurities of most young girls, I think.\u201d\n          <\/p>\n<p>\n            Theodora would know. Growing up as a \u201cweird Black girl\u201d in the countryside of France, she\u2019s been able to turn that trait into a superpower as the country\u2019s brightest young starlet. And today, I have people saying to me, \u2018I\u2019m so fond of your music,\u2019\u201d she says, incredulously while rolling a blunt, her hair out of its usual bimbo bleach-blond wig and laid neatly against her scalp in twists. \u201cI\u2019m like, <i>how do you even understand what I&#8217;m saying?<\/i> It\u2019s not weird, but it\u2019s like, <i>oh damn, it\u2019s crazy.<\/i>\u201d She takes a beat for emphasis. \u201cYeah, it&#8217;s <i>crazy<\/i>.\u201d\n          <\/p>\n<p>\n            Now that Theodora has become certifiably famous in France, she\u2019s more conscious about wearing her favorite wigs. \u201cI\u2019m doing more natural hair styles with afro texture or something like that, because I know that I&#8217;m changing many minds. Many minds of little Black girls,\u201d she tells me. There\u2019s a lot more she has to think about now: When she goes on radio shows and code switches to \u201cintellectual French,\u201d as she puts it; and at press interviews, when she has to decide how she\u2019ll respond to \u201cmicroaggressive\u201d questions that compare her to the other few French Black women singers.\n          <\/p>\n<div class=\"\" style=\"padding-bottom: 20px; margin-top: 20px; text-align: left;\">\n<\/div>\n<p>\n            In the last decade, France has fielded only one dark-skin Black woman superstar: the French-Malian singer Aya Nakamura, who still faces racism to an unconscionable degree. (After Nakamura was announced to be performing at the 2024 Paris Summer Olympics Opening Ceremony, one of France\u2019s far-right groups protested with a racist banner that read: \u201c<a rel=\"nofollow\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_new\" href=\"https:\/\/www.lemonde.fr\/en\/police-and-justice\/article\/2025\/06\/04\/thirteen-go-on-trial-in-france-over-racist-insult-targeting-singer-aya-nakamura_6741990_105.html\">No way, Aya, this is Paris, not the Bamako market.<\/a>\u201d) Coming up in the post-Nakamura spotlight, Theodora\u2019s rise is exemplary not because it\u2019s still a rarity, but because she and her music move as if they weren\u2019t fighting a ceaseless current \u2014 even if it still wears her down.\n          <\/p>\n<\/p><\/div>\n<\/p><\/div>\n<\/div>\n<style>\n<p> #content_block-275826,  #content_block-275826 blockquote.pull_quote, #content_block-275826 .img_caption .caption {\n   color: #ed40fd;\n }\n<\/style>\n<div id=\"content_block-275826\" class=\"content_block breaker triple_gutter_right triple_gutter_left pull_quote\">\n<div class=\"media_wrapper\">\n<blockquote class=\"pull_quote\"><p><big>I know that I\u2019m changing <b><u>many minds<\/u><\/b>. birth,\u201d Lili-Th\u00e9odora Mbangayo Mujinga was actually born in Switzerland to a Congolese father whose career as a military medical practitioner moved her and her brother to Greece, Switzerland, France, and R\u00e9union Island off the coast of Madagascar. She was a teenager when they made their final move back to a small town in the countryside of France, and she\u2019d already fostered a hobby of making music at home with her brother. All the years bouncing around had turned her into an increasingly <a href=\"https:\/\/buradabiliyorum.com\/en\/category\/social-mediaa\/\" data-internallinksmanager029f6b8e52c=\"1\" title=\"Social Media\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">social<\/a>ly avoidant teen.\n          <\/p>\n<div class=\"\" style=\"padding-bottom: 20px; margin-top: 20px; text-align: left;\">\n<\/div>\n<p>\n            But she still loved to party. During lockdown, when she could no longer do so, Theodora and her brother, Jeez Suave, made her first-ever project, <i><a rel=\"nofollow\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_new\" href=\"https:\/\/open.spotify.com\/track\/7uU3BwxeLwPDVtinllgOYb?_authfailed=1\">Neptune<\/a><\/i>, a tr<a href=\"https:\/\/buradabiliyorum.com\/en\/category\/download-scripts-themes-apps\/\" data-internallinksmanager029f6b8e52c=\"9\" title=\"Download Scripts &amp; Themes &amp; Apps\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">app<\/a>y rap EP that motivated her to begin taking music seriously. By the time she was back spending nights in the club, she was formulating a new sound incorporating pop, R&amp;B, drum and bass, afrobeats, Creole folk music, and bouyon, a genre born from francophone descendants in the Caribbean. The aforementioned \u201cKONGOLESE SOUS BBL\u201d is an obvious example. But the staggeringly sticky \u201c<a rel=\"nofollow\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_new\" href=\"https:\/\/youtu.be\/NnUpQgYhN-0?si=IalR39nyUVdjThFJ\">Mon B\u00e9b\u00e9<\/a>,\u201d is even more shameless and filled with seemingly queer-coded imagery. \u201cSkinny waist, spicy babe, I love your taste\/ Boss lady therefore shout my name,\u201d is a rough English translation of a lyric. With her stage outfits, Theodora exclusively works in lingerie, bikinis, corsets, and inventively draped fabrics that cover censor-demanded areas and nothing else.\n <i>Kiffe<\/i>, and to enjoy being alive because I think sometime in my life, I didn\u2019t enjoy my life. I really don\u2019t wanna lose this part of my life of becoming a big international star.\u201d\n          <\/p>\n<p>\n            Previously, she had told a <a rel=\"nofollow\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_new\" href=\"https:\/\/numero.com\/en\/culture-en\/music\/interview-with-theodora-the-hitmaker-who-once-dreamed-of-a-political-career\/\">reporter<\/a> that if she wasn\u2019t making music she\u2019d be a politician, though she\u2019s changed her mind about that now. Living in a country that\u2019s perpetually fighting a rising tide of fascism, she&#8217;s exhausted by the prospect. And besides, \u201cI think I can have more power in music than in politics,\u201d she says.
