See how agents and MCPs can streamline PPC workflows and expand what automation can do.<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h2>\n<p><\/p>\n<div class=\"bialty-container\">\n<p>Automation has shaped PPC for decades, and the landscape keeps shifting.<\/p>\n<p>I\u2019ve seen that evolution firsthand, from helping build the first AdWords Editor to developing early Google Ads <a href=\"https:\/\/buradabiliyorum.com\/en\/category\/download-scripts-themes-apps\/\" data-internallinksmanager029f6b8e52c=\"9\" title=\"Download Scripts &amp; Themes &amp; Apps\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">script<\/a>s and writing about automation layering.<\/p>\n<p>Now we\u2019re entering another major transition.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>As AI changes how we search and get answers, it\u2019s also transforming how automation itself gets built.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>And this time, the momentum isn\u2019t coming from ad platforms like Google \u2013 it\u2019s coming from AI companies like OpenAI.<\/p>\n<p>Until recently, AI mostly helped with human language tasks like writing ad copy, summaries, or reports.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>But the latest generation of LLMs can increasingly generate computer language too, including the software and workflows that streamline how we work.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>At OpenAI\u2019s DevDay in San Francisco, the company introduced AgentKit, a new way to build AI that can take action.<\/p>\n<p>It marks the start of a phase where the automation mindset that powered PPC optimization can extend far beyond campaigns and into entire workflows.<\/p>\n<h2 id=\"imagine-if-ai-could-handle-your-everyday-busywork\" class=\"wp-block-heading\"><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"Imagine_if_AI_could_handle_your_everyday_busywork\"><\/span>Imagine if AI could handle your everyday busywork<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h2>\n<p>Picture this:<\/p>\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>A client sends a CSV with weekly results, and before you\u2019ve even opened the email, the file is saved to the right folder and added to your dashboard.<\/li>\n<li>A client asks for a meeting \u2013 AI checks your calendar, drafts an agenda, and schedules it.<\/li>\n<li>You start writing new ad copy with AI, and the system automatically pulls your brand guidelines and checks for tone and compliance.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>This is all possible today, and you don\u2019t need an engineering degree to make it happen.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>If you can define how your work is broken down into distinct tasks, you can create an agent that does those steps for you.<\/p>\n<p><strong><em>Dig deeper: 4 ways to connect your ads data to generative AI for smarter PPC<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n<h2 id=\"what-agents-really-are\" class=\"wp-block-heading\"><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"What_agents_really_are\"><\/span>What agents really are<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h2>\n<p>An AI agent is a smart helper that can figure out what needs to happen and then take action using connected tools.<\/p>\n<p>Software has historically been built around deterministic steps. If X, do Y, else do Z. It\u2019s predictable, but inflexible.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>And it requires humans to define every possible scenario that should be covered, which makes writing a helpful program time-consuming and difficult.<\/p>\n<p>But just like an LLM is flexible in how it answers your questions, it can use that flexibility to automatically figure out a reasonable next step to complete a task.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Instead of replying with text, agents can reason through steps, call APIs, and perform tasks.<\/p>\n<p>I\u2019ve explained early versions of this before:\u00a0<\/p>\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>You ask ChatGPT for restaurant ideas while planning a <a href=\"https:\/\/buradabiliyorum.com\/en\/category\/trip-and-travel\/\" data-internallinksmanager029f6b8e52c=\"10\" title=\"Trip &amp; Travel\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">trip<\/a>.<\/li>\n<li>It suggests a few places.<\/li>\n<li>It then uses an app like Resy to book the reservation.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>That\u2019s what an agent does: it can understand your intent and take a real-world step.<\/p>\n<p>This concept builds on earlier OpenAI features, such as <a rel=\"nofollow\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/platform.openai.com\/docs\/actions\/introduction\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">GPT Actions and function calling<\/a>, which gave models controlled access to outside data.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Agents are the next evolution \u2013 they combine reasoning with execution, meaning they can plan and act in the same flow.<\/p>\n<p>Now, think about that in PPC terms.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>An agent could pull campaign data, summarize results, and even reference brand or policy docs before generating compliant creative.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>That\u2019s a big step up from traditional \u201cAI writing assistants.\u201d<\/p>\n<p><strong><em>Dig deeper: AI agents in PPC: What to know and build today<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n<h2 id=\"from-coding-projects-to-fiveminute-builds\" class=\"wp-block-heading\"><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"From_coding_projects_to_five-minute_builds\"><\/span>From coding projects to five-minute builds<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h2>\n<p>AI agents aren\u2019t a new idea.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Many marketers, myself included, have experimented with them for more than a year, but it used to take a lot of technical work.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>About a year and a half ago, I built an agent based on the two books I\u2019d written that could answer questions in my tone and reference my ideas.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>I used LangChain, one of the first frameworks for connecting large language models to data and tools. AgentKit is the faucet.<\/p>\n<p>The plumbing defines what data can flow where. The faucet is how you turn that into something usable.<\/p>\n<p>Without MCPs, an agent would be like a brilliant intern with no logins to any of the systems they need.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>With them, the agent can safely use your data and tools with clear permissions.<\/p>\n<p><strong><em>Dig deeper: How Model Context Protocol is shaping the future of AI and search marketing<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n<h2 id=\"mcps-in-plain-terms\" class=\"wp-block-heading\"><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"MCPs_in_plain_terms\"><\/span>MCPs in plain terms<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h2>\n<p>If this still sounds abstract, think of an MCP as a menu of what an AI can do inside a given flow.<\/p>\n<p>For example, the Google Ads MCP currently includes actions like:<\/p>\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Search for entities.<\/li>\n<li>List connected customers.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>That\u2019s it for now. It can read data, but it can\u2019t change bids or create ads yet.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>That limitation is a good illustration that MCPs don\u2019t open the door to entire systems for an LLM to go wild.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Instead, they provide a defined set of capabilities created by the MCP developer.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>It\u2019s an important guardrail. And even with MCPs that offer broader capabilities, you still control exactly which actions your agent can access when you integrate them into a flow.<\/p>\n<p>Even in this early state, it\u2019s a clear preview of how AI might eventually interact with Google Ads data through well-defined, secure interfaces.<\/p>\n<h2 id=\"example-a-brandsafe-ad-assistant\" class=\"wp-block-heading\"><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"Example_A_%E2%80%98brand-safe_ad_assistant\"><\/span>Example: A \u2018brand-safe ad assistant\u2019<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h2>\n<p>Here\u2019s what this looks like in practice.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Imagine you want an AI assistant that writes Google Ads while automatically following your brand voice and legal disclaimers.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>In AgentKit, you could create an agent with two connected tools:\u00a0<\/p>\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Dropbox, where your brand guidelines live.<\/li>\n<li>A vector store with your agency\u2019s tone and policy docs.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>You could then ask the agent to \u201cwrite new RSA headlines for our fall campaign using our style and disclaimers,\u201d and it would connect with the right data to complete the task.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Behind the scenes, it reads the files, extracts the rules, and generates compliant ad copy.
