Notably, people of color more often tested positive only after coming to the hospital and also required more oxygen and ventilation, whereas whites usually tested outside the hospital setting.

The review was compiled by the Epic Health Research Network Kaiser Family Foundation (KFF), based on the medical records from some 50 million patients among 53 health systems across 21 states.

Compared with whites, Hispanic patients quadrupled the rate of hospital visits for COVID-19, while black patients were about three times as likely to end up in a hospital stretcher. Both groups were twice as likely to die from the disease, the study found.

The report demonstrates the “increased barriers to testing that contribute to delays in obtaining testing until they are in more serious condition compared to white patients,” the authors wrote, and that minority groups are “bearing a disproportionate burden of negative health outcomes related to the COVID-19 pandemic at every stage.”

“[It] adds nuance to our understanding of inequities in our COVID-19 response by showing racial and ethnic disparities that persist when comparing populations with similar health and socioeconomic status,” said Christopher Alban, vice president of clinical informatics at the Epic Health Research Network.

Even as researchers controlled their cohorts for “similar sociodemographic characteristics and underlying health conditions,” they assert the disparity suggests “that other barriers, including racism and discrimination, are affecting outcomes,” in ways that the report could not concretely reveal.

“This analysis points to delays in testing for people of color, who are sicker and more likely to be infected when they do get tested. The findings highlight the continued importance of addressing racial disparities in responding to COVID-19 as in health care more broadly,” said Drew Atman, KFF’s president and CEO.

if you want to watch Movies or Tv Shows go to Dizi.BuradaBiliyorum.Com for forums sites go to Forum.BuradaBiliyorum.Com

If you want to read more News articles, you can visit our General category.

Source

“#Minorities more likely to test positive for the coronavirus, study finds” If you want to watch Movies or TV series visit the Dizi.BuradaBiliyorum.Com Blacks, Asians and Hispanics are substantially more likely to be diagnosed with, and die from, the coronavirus compared with whites, according to a new analysis of ethnic disparities during the pandemic.
