\n Jacob deGrom\u2019s right hamstring is showing improvement, but the Mets are still taking it slow in declaring the right-hander set for his next scheduled start.<\/p>\n

A day after the Mets ace departed after just two innings because of a spasm in the hamstring, manager Luis Rojas was encouraged with the signs.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe response was actually positive, so it\u2019s a progression from [Wednesday] to how he feels,\u201d Rojas said before the Mets beat the Phillies, 10-6, at Citizens Bank Park. \u201cHe was able to go out and play catch, so it\u2019s a good day, positive day. We caught it early, but let\u2019s go day-to-day still.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe focus was on the hamstring spasm and he wasn\u2019t feeling anything near what he felt [Wednesday] so we are going to go off that.\u201d<\/p>\n

DeGrom app<\/a>eared loose and in good spirits during a pregame<\/a> conversation with former teammate Zack Wheeler in front of the Mets dugout. DeGrom, who is chasing a third straight National League Cy Young Award, has scheduled starts against the Rays and Nationals next week.<\/p>\n

In his abbreviated start, deGrom allowed three earned runs over two innings against the Phillies and saw his ERA jump from 1.69 to 2.09. The Reds\u2019 Trevor Bauer now leads the NL with a 1.71 ERA. Entering Thursday deGrom ranked fifth in the NL in ERA.<\/p>\n\n

Andres Gimenez entered play with a .928 OPS over his previous 14 games, also shining defensively at shortstop. Over the past two weeks he\u2019s become the starter, displacing Amed Rosario.<\/p>\n
