class=\"content_inner_wrapper\">\n<div class=\"paragraph_wrapper center_align\">\n<p>\n            New York-based trio Scotch Mist has been carving out its own lane in the city\u2019s indie scene, refusing to be boxed in by genre expectations. What started as a studio project between vocalist Ed Zighelboim and his brother has evolved into a 3-piece outfit that blurs the lines between indie rock, disco, soul, and electronica.\n          <\/p>\n<p>\n            After moving to New York, Ed connected with guitarist and producer Fern Souza, working with him as a producer before adding bass player Gianluca Girard to the group after a live gig in 2019. \u201cWhen it came to start performing live, we needed a bass player for a show, and Gianluca took the gig two days before and learned all the songs and smashed it,\u201d Ed explained. Their latest single, \u201cPatterns in the Sky\u201d, a smooth, yacht-rock-tinged affair with shimmering guitars, speaks to their most recent fixations. \u201cThe three of us are obsessed with Steely Dan and Japanese city pop music right now,\u201d Ed said. \u201cSo that definitely shows on that song.\u201d In many of their recent releases, their sound can be hard to pin down, but that fluidity is the key to their distinct sound. \u201cI think it\u2019s a little bit of everything, like rock that also has a little bit of a jazz influence as well,\u201d Fern explained. \u201cPersonally, I really love electronic music, dance music in <a href=\"https:\/\/buradabiliyorum.com\/en\/category\/general\/\" data-internallinksmanager029f6b8e52c=\"3\" title=\"General\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">general<\/a>, music from the 70s and 80s, disco boogie music, all that.\u201d\n          <\/p>\n<p>\n            While <i>crybaby<\/i> saw the band firmly establishing their indie rock roots, their 2023 album <i>Cabo Blanco<\/i> heavily incorporated elements of Brazilian Tropicalia, a nod to both Fern and Brazilian-born Gianluca\u2019s own inspirations. \u201cObviously, we love rock, we love these pop records, seminal R&amp;B records, jazz, and Brazilian music, of course,\u201d Gianluca explained, mentioning artists like Milton Nascimento, Lo Borges, and Gilberto Gil. \u201cSome of this stuff is just embedded in our subconscious.\u201d\n          <\/p>\n<\/p><\/div>\n<\/p><\/div>\n<\/div>\n<style>\n<\/style>\n<div id=\"content_block-276443\" class=\"content_block paragraph text triple_gutter_right triple_gutter_left center_align\">\n<div class=\"content_inner_wrapper\">\n<div class=\"paragraph_wrapper center_align\">\n<div class=\"\" style=\"padding-bottom: 20px; margin-top: 20px; text-align: left;\">\n<\/div><\/div>\n<\/p><\/div>\n<\/div>\n<style>\n<\/style>\n<div id=\"content_block-276431\" class=\"content_block paragraph video triple_gutter_right triple_gutter_left center_align\">\n<div class=\"content_inner_wrapper\">\n<div class=\"media_wrapper\">\n<div class=\"video_wrapper\">\n<div class=\"fluid-width-video-wrapper\" style=\"padding-top: 56.25%;\">\n<p>    <iframe loading=\"lazy\" title=\"Scotch Mist - Patterns In The Sky (Official Video)\" width=\"640\" height=\"360\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/2mlBWsb2T58?feature=oembed\" frameborder=\"0\" allow=\"accelerometer; autoplay; clipboard-write; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture; web-share\" referrerpolicy=\"strict-origin-when-cross-origin\" allowfullscreen><\/iframe><\/p><\/div>\n<\/div>\n<p><script>\n \/\/trackYouTubeVideo('276431');\n<\/script><\/p><\/div>\n<\/p><\/div>\n<\/div>\n<style>\n<\/style>\n<div id=\"content_block-276436\" class=\"content_block paragraph text triple_gutter_right triple_gutter_left center_align\">\n<div class=\"content_inner_wrapper\">\n<div class=\"paragraph_wrapper center_align\">\n<p>\n            But that sonic shift wasn\u2019t just about exploration, it was about healing, too. \u201cI think <i>crybaby <\/i>was really, really heavy, and we needed to get it out. We were writing a lot of sad songs, you know,\u201d Gianluca added. On much of <i>crybaby<\/i>, Ed gr<a href=\"https:\/\/buradabiliyorum.com\/en\/category\/download-scripts-themes-apps\/\" data-internallinksmanager029f6b8e52c=\"9\" title=\"Download Scripts &amp; Themes &amp; Apps\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">app<\/a>led with the loss of his girlfriend, Lydia Touchton, who passed away suddenly in 2019. The tracks are deeply personal, capturing the raw vulnerability of processing grief in real time. \u201cThey\u2019re beautiful, but for <i>Cabo Blanco<\/i> we made a conscious effort to keep it light and just make it groovy.\u201d Diving headfirst into escapism, <i>Cabo Blanco<\/i> brings dream-like production to life through its 11 tracks. On \u201cShadowbanned,\u201d Ed\u2019s breathy falsetto brings <a href=\"https:\/\/buradabiliyorum.com\/en\/category\/social-mediaa\/\" data-internallinksmanager029f6b8e52c=\"1\" title=\"Social Media\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">social media<\/a> anxiety to the dancefloor over soulful synths, while \u201cSink Into (Your Love)\u201d dialled up the disco influence, complete with funk guitars and lush string arrangements. Where Ed would work with Gianluca to finish off mostly-finished demos, they\u2019ve shifted to working more collaboratively. On <i>Cabo Blanco<\/i>, they worked together as writers and producers, and even worked on an initial run of tracks before starting over with a new direction. \u201cI forgot that we had scrapped 20 [at first]. We\u2019re still creating, but we have a vault.\u201d It\u2019s also a process that expands beyond the band. \u201cWe collaborate with a lot of New York City jazz musicians to play on our records,\u201d Ed explained. \u201cSo if you look at the credits for our music, there\u2019s usually a good solid amount of people on there that are playing keys or saxophone or strings, like Shaan Ramaprasad or Danae Greenfield.\u201d\n          <\/p>\n<p>\n            On \u201cPatterns in the Sky\u201d, they shared co-writing duties with New York-based Huxley Kuhlmann, marking the first time they\u2019ve worked with a songwriter outside of the group. \u201cIt\u2019s someone we know and admire, so it just felt like a natural way to try something new. I think he pushed us out of our comfort zone a little bit, lyrically speaking,\u201d Ed explained. That willingness to experiment also shows up in the track\u2019s layered production. \u201cI feel like Gianluca\u2019s bass shines, Fern\u2019s guitar shines,  and my vocals shine.
