Rose\u2019s family, <a rel=\"nofollow noopener noreferrer\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.post-gazette.com\/news\/crime-courts\/2019\/03\/01\/Michael-Rosfeld-Antown-Rose-shooting-east-pittsburgh-drive-by-victim-tells-police\/stories\/201903010161\">which argued<\/a> that the preceding incidents were irrelevant to the killing of an unarmed civilian, settled a civil rights lawsuit against the borough of East Pittsburgh for $2 million last year.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_16319747\" class=\"wp-caption alignnone aligncenter\"><img class=\"size-nypost-large-desktop-uncropped wp-image-16319747 lazyload\" alt=\"Maurkice Pouncey\" width=\"662\" height=\"441\" srcset=\"https:\/\/nypost.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2020\/09\/pouncey.jpg?quality=90&amp;strip=all&amp;w=300 300w, https:\/\/nypost.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2020\/09\/pouncey.jpg?quality=90&amp;strip=all&amp;w=640 640w, https:\/\/nypost.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2020\/09\/pouncey.jpg?quality=90&amp;strip=all&amp;w=1280 1280w, https:\/\/nypost.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2020\/09\/pouncey.jpg?quality=90&amp;strip=all&amp;w=662 662w, https:\/\/nypost.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2020\/09\/pouncey.jpg?quality=90&amp;strip=all&amp;w=1324 1324w\" data-sizes=\"(max-width: 640px) 100vw, 662px\"\/><figcaption class=\"wp-caption-text\"><span>Maurkice Pouncey<\/span><span class=\"credit\">Getty Images<\/span><\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>The Steelers announced Monday that it would be honoring Rose with the helmet gesture, though the <a rel=\"nofollow noopener noreferrer\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.steelers.com\/news\/coming-together-to-remember-antwon-rose-jr\">team\u2019s statement<\/a> did not include specific details, including that the group\u2019s car matched that of one used in a drive-by or that Rosfeld was acquitted in the shooting.<\/p>\n<p>Steelers offensive lineman Al Villanueva, a former Army Ranger, was the first player to break from the decision to highlight Rose\u2019s killing, opting to instead to bear the name of\u00a0Army Sgt. 1st Class Alwyn Cashe, a black soldier who was killed on duty in Iraq, on his helmet for the team\u2019s first <a href=\"https:\/\/buradabiliyorum.com\/en\/category\/game\/\" data-internallinksmanager029f6b8e52c=\"7\" title=\"Game\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">game<\/a> Monday night.<\/p>\n<p>Steelers president Art Rooney II <a rel=\"nofollow noopener noreferrer\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/steelers\/status\/1306620671338909696?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw%7Ctwcamp%5Etweetembed%7Ctwterm%5E1306620671338909696%7Ctwgr%5Eshare_0&amp;ref_url=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.cbssports.com%2Fnfl%2Fnews%2Fmaurkice-pouncey-is-second-steelers-player-to-cover-name-of-police-shooting-victim-on-helmet%2F\">issued a statement<\/a> Thursday saying he would support players\u2019 individual decisions on the helmet tribute.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cAs an organization, we respect the decisions of each player, coach and staff member relating to how to express themselves on <a href=\"https:\/\/buradabiliyorum.com\/en\/category\/social-mediaa\/\" data-internallinksmanager029f6b8e52c=\"1\" title=\"Social Media\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">social<\/a> justice topics,\u201d Rooney said. \u201cWe will continue to support our social initiatives to fight against social injustice and systemic racism not only in our area, but around the country.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Rose\u2019s mother, Michelle Kenney, said she was initially disappointed and angered to read that players were removing her son\u2019s name from their helmets, but said she realized Pouncey shared the same goal for police reform, <a rel=\"nofollow noopener noreferrer\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/triblive.com\/sports\/antwon-rose-jr-s-mother-sees-common-ground-with-steelers-maurkice-pouncey-alejandro-villanueva\/\">she told the Tribune-Review<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>In his Instagram post, Pouncey expressed support for social justice initiatives.<\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"instagram-media\" data-instgrm-captioned=\"\" data-instgrm-permalink=\"https:\/\/www.instagram.com\/p\/CFPUiBSAONJ\/?utm_source=ig_embed&amp;utm_campaign=loading\" data-instgrm-version=\"12\" style=\" background:#FFF;
